Except for LITS, DOA, and BU, which are true blue VH.

But a GOOD tour. Actually, when it comes to Dave Halen, the first 3 tours are from all evidence to date, the best tours.
I think you and I had this same discussion regarding VH II and Diver Down at the GNR show back in November 2018. I will just agree to disagree.

I love VHII more than the debut.

I just love the songs, the darker guitar tone, the way Dave sounds more relaxed
    and Diamond like.

The debut is incredible, but II just has this vibe that i connected to instantly.
I think all the songs are so damn good.

I do think LUTS should have opened the album, though.
YNG is awesome, but i'd have saved it for deeper in the album.
    Maybe open side two.

    But, man...

Ronstadt had one hell of a voice.

She's got so much power and vocal definition/articulation.
    Def had the gift.

You know perfectly well the brown sound is warmer on Diver than II. You may like the song selection better, but the tone and mix aren't nearly as potent as the debut, or WACF, or FW, or DD.

The debut sounds a bit too self aware, with each song ending with a little EVH cadenza,
    and Roth sounding extremely eager.

It's brilliant, no question, i do love it.

But II has this sort of cocky, relaxed confidence.

When he tears your head off with the solo in DOA, it's less "look at me,"
and more just, "Hey, this is just how i play...it's so easy!"

    I love that.

"I'm the one" has that stellar, pitch perfect barber shop breakdown, while
Bottom's up! does it in this loose fashion, that sounds so spontaneous.

WACF too that thing even further, that sort of vibe that started seeping through
    on II.

I will say that for me, II and Diver Down are the VH albums with the most "summertime feel to them." Just flat out fun records.

I don't really have 'seasonal' Van Halen preferences.

I do think of summertime with 5150, but that's because it was my senior year in high school, and that concert that summer was a wealth of decadent clusterfucks.

But it was an error not to bring back Bottoms Up or DOA for the VH4 era.

VH makes songs their own. They did pretty darn well with this one.

I'd bet that this was the 45rpm in Dave's record collection... not Linda's.

Coulda can pull the other two early versions and debate me, of course.

Beginning with the great and eerie "whale calling" bass intro by Mike, then Al comes in on his Octobans, the first time on a studio recording we get to hear him play those. Then Ed with such a warm classic brown sound tone, and one of his finest solos ever with another new(at the time) tapping run and the first time we get to hear his palm scrape harmonic technique which he does again later on SGMAD. Last but not least the call and response screams and squeals between Dave and Ed is among the best that any singer/guitarist duo ever laid down on tape.

Man, what's not to love, and personally I've never understood the bashing this tune often gets. But, then again, I'll never understand the absolute trashing most people give Loss Of Control, either.
Agreed! Kick ass tune, great cover by The Mighty One! As for the best studio covers, I'd say:

VH's version demolishes all other versions of "You're No Good" because the darkness that VH brought to the tune is already there in the song. It's very present in the lyrics. The other version are singing the lyrics on top of some happy-go-lucky music. And Dave's way of singing is really great.
He's leaving space - it's not that technically difficult, but it's aesthetically pleasing. I don't see why he couldn't do it now. YNG sounds like a cool tune for Vegas!
