It's an ok song. It was them trying to stay current, which I get, but VH trying to be AIC isn't my cup of tea.

Ed and Al were starting to be unhappy with Sam starting in 1988, they just seem to never be happy with whichever great frontman they have.

Freddie Mercury could have been their singer and they would have found something to hate him for.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Thinking about Don't Tell Me again: Can you imagine if it was the same song musically, but had something along the lines of the "Can't Stop Lovin' You' lyrics....would have been f*cking ridiculous. Sounds like Eddie saved that song with his lyrical suggestions.

I think if you could quantify the 2 distinct eras in song titles, I would use "On Fire" for CVH & "Poundcake" for Van Hagar. One was a visceral band firing on all cylinders, & one was a musically more mature band, occasionally dragged down by the juvenile sex-obsession of some of the lyrics. Again, just my opinion.

Aftershock and Take Me Back(Deja Vu) for me. I know you don't care much for the chorus on TMB, but I just think that is a great song overall. Sam does a great job on that one, both lyrically and vocally and with the melody.

Aftershock is just a nice rocker, with Ed and Al blazing away and even Mike gets to shine a bit on that one, too.

I love Take Me Back, one of my favorite VH tunes. Ed and Sam both set the mood of the song perfectly, you feel like you are sitting on a beach thinking.

I'd say it is definitely the best collaboration between the two on the Balance album.

Yes, true, but I'm thinking the rest of the lyrics would've remained darker given the premise/theme of the song, but with a more uplifting (lyrical) chorus by changing a word or two.

Fair Warning and Balance are my two fav VH records. Everybody seems to think those are the two “darkest” records VH did with each of their first two singers. Maybe it says something about me? But honestly, don’t find either record “too” dark.

    It’s VH after all.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

Despite what people say, I just don’t see anything dark about Fair Warning. Great record, but dark? Balance does have some darker stuff on it. Crossing Over, Seventh Seal, Feelin’, Don’t Tell Me. It’s my favorite Sammy record.

Nothing says "light and sunny" quite like porn …

I smelt tension in the band on the albums release day. A CD cover with the singer in the background was unheard of back then. Plus the interviews weren’t the same either, and they were all serious. They were laughing and joking up until the RHRN tour, and during the “Unboxed” promotions on tv, Sammy kept saying “I’m not quitting Van Halen”. It was like he was trying to cover up something.
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977
