Sorry just saw this, there are deals to be had for a II or a road used block letter. I have a 5150II and itís tweaked a little. It itís hotter than the 5150III I have. I personally think itís hard to get better than that.

I'm sure most guys that wisely held on to theirs would love to get them re-furbished and then hold on to them for collector value and use a newer EVH model's for live shows. And I have a 5150III 15w head that sounds amazing (as does the MXR pedal), but it's still not the sound I consider to be THE 5150 tone...
I'm thinking maybe that's why they brought that James Brown guy in from Peavey? Wishful thinking...

I still can't believe those ridiculous color WolfgangsÖ. Even the Specials don't look very sharp. A simple black 5150 guitar would have been nice too...

fudd said what I wanted to say when you mentioned your regret...

IMO, this is the time to be hunting down those original Peavey block lettered "EVH" heads, the following "cease and desist" signature models, the 212 combos, and the IIs,
especially if you are still longing for them, and/or regretful of your ridding of them.
I think they will become much sought after, as they approach vintage status.
All these new things are a dime a dozen, stamped out in China and Mexico, and flooding the market.
No one hands us happiness, we have to find it ourselves.

I hear you bud... I peruse craigslist all the time looking for "vintage" gear which for me is old 80s Kramer's, Jackson's, Charvels.
I don't seem to find much anymore. I think those guitars have reached the point in history where the owners realize their worth, be it nostalgic or monetary and they aren't letting them go anymore.

Ultimately, I end up asking myself "Is that guitar/amp going to make you any happier?" and I usually just end up donating $$ to a charity and I feel better. Not to say I don't regret some of the really cool gear I've let go in the past.

I seek out vintage Kramerís but they seem to be overpriced for the Americans now.

They are really only worth about $300-$500 depending on condition. There's very few actual American Kramers. Most are in personal collections...

I notice most of the new Wolfgang Standards are now $650-$700 per some online sites...

Fuck that. Guess my 2017 Zilla burst will be the only one I ever own.

Not only that but people fuck with them and change out the pups or pots and they just donít sound right most of the time. Sometimes they donít put the electronics back right.

Itís hard to find a USA model thatís not been ruined.

These prices on standards are going to slowly creep up. They will replace the special line. Pretty sure I got mine for 400 new...maybe 450.

They want better margins. Can't blame them, but people that want quality instruments won't be buyers.

Lack of expansion on the specials....actually reduction on color options, is telling.

Good top, stainless steel. Burst options.

Once the specials go, I'm in the market for another brand. I'm holding on to hope new options come. I'll just move over to an American made Charvel or build kits from somewhere.

The standards would be perfect for flat or matte colors. Think of those 600 dollar Peavey specials they made for a few years. Literally the basics. That's what they need.

That reminds me of myself at Guitar Center, about 40 years ago...crowd all gathered around too.
Then the salesman asked if I knew any Dickie Betts.
I hung up the Charvel Bee, and walked away in shame.

    So much to learn

I think I got the Standard for $450 from Sweetwater the first week they came out. I don't care for the knock off electronics but it is a very solid guitar...

I remember being a sales clerk at L&M up here (guitar Dept.) and doing some tapping runs from the DLR Big Trouble solo. I was playing through a Rocktron Chameleon rack mount preamp. An older guy - acoustic player - called me "Licks Pizzano" haha. Another time, I plugged into a BOSS ME-10, tweaked the delay and started doing the EVH Cathedral swells. A co-worker said "That sounds so 80's"
