You can say that about almost all their covers.

Except PW and A Apolitical Blues, their versions were better than the original, sometimes by light years.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    That can't be, my friend.

Based on the original tune, it was pretty well done and even has a plus stuff that we call as Intruder. To me, Intruder not only shows =VH='s capacity as a band to improve, but also the power behind them, basically Ted Templeman and Donn Landee, recording and mixing and putting the whole thing together.

Oh, and we can not forget the video shoot for (Oh) Pretty Woman.

Intruder is amazing and was wasted as an intro to Pretty Woman.

I actually like Orbison's version better.

They forgot a verse and screwed up the bridge. Ed lamented later that in an interview they fucked it up. He said he admitted it to Roy Orbison and Orbison kind of gave him the brush off.

Side note: Orbison's version was played at a party in college, and this one sweet little lady says "who fucked up Pretty Woman?"

At least DITS has that cool EVH riff

Pretty Woman, both the original and the VH version, has little energy.

The interesting thing about Diver Down for me is that listening to the whole thing, you kinda think "WTF?". But when you listen to individual songs you get it. Dave did a ragtime vocal on it and that's cool.

In my mind, a band that can reach out of it's genre, do something foreign and make it work is the mark of a great band/artist.

To add to that, for the VH boys to do that with their father is what puts this song over the top for me. How many bands can claim anything multi-generational? Very, very, few.
