I never heard of a Billie Eilish before this.

Listened to a couple of her songs. Utter crap. Some catchy stuff, I guess, but overall...utter crap that will be history in 6-12 months when the next dose of utter crap comes along.

Maybe she can be like Taylor Swift or Katy Perry and have a good, long run of putting out more utter crap and make a bunch of $$$ like those two.

I'll bet one thing right now: You know how there are "contemporary" stations that play pop music, usually from the 80's to the present? And how there were "80's stations" back in the 90's?

Yeah, there won't be stations like that in 20-30 years for today's pop music. It's not going to stand the test of time....it already isn't.

Pop artists like Madonna and Michael Jackson, even Eurythmics, etc....that best of all that material never really left the radio. Whereas early Taylor Swift is GONE.

    Get off my lawn.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

It's catchy, but it's more than that, she has a specific point of view that hasn't been out there. "Bad/tough girl." That said, her whisper-singing, which she does on every song, is awful.

The reason is because there is a trend right now of "mumble" everything, mumble rap, mumble pop. I think she will outgrow it. It's true she has her own point of view and that's a good thing. I think there were always girl like her, but when we were growing up, if a girl wasn't either like Madonna or Cindy Lauper, there was no one she could identify with.

I asked my 16 year old son if he knew who Billie Eilish was, and he said "yeah, she's disgusting..."

He's more into classic rock than anything else, hates rap... So basically, I'm proud as hell of him!

I think when I was in high school, girls like her were into Bauhaus and Christian Death, maybe Siouxsie and the Banshees.

If we're gonna talk Van Halen, we'll be living back in 2015. I feel like I'm alive and breathing in the now, talking about this teen star who's music grates my ear!

Except I watch her videos and...watching her run around the stage is fun. Imagine being 17 and having the world kissing your ass. Gotta be fun.

We live in a strange world. If someone with 50 million followers would talk about VH, immediately the interest in the band would grow enormously, no matter who said it.

I am not that proud to admit I love a good pop song. Whether its ABBA, Miley Cyrus, Tay Tay, Katy Perry, Hansen or Backstreet Boys. If you can create a memorable chorus that is catchy, I will dig it

Her stuff that I have heard so far is devoid of that. As Gary Cherone wrote, Hip Today, Gone Tomorrow.

For music to have longevity, it needs a tag that will instantly bring you back to a period of time. I can't see this having it. Sure in 20 years it may get some play on a Sirius station catering to the 2020's or whatever but it will be like Art of Noise being played on an 80's station.

The current era will produce less "classic" stuff, non doubt. However I think a few songs will become classics, and we have to come to terms with the fact that they might be songs that we dont really understand. It's like if in the 80s I would've played some Metallica to my dad, who was in his 40s, he would've probably said "this is noise and will be forgotten next year."

I think what will affect her longevity is that her audience is teenage females. What appeals to them usually doesn't stick around long term. When Motley Crue was on the cover of Rolling Stone there was an A&R guy who said women tended to buy singles, whereas guys "bought the band." He pointed out if you liked Iron Maiden and you heard they had an album coming out, you knew you were going to buy it before you even heard a note. Women might love a couple of Duran Duran songs but then forgot about them.

I just hope her parents have made it clear to her the screaming arenas could be gone by this time next year. It could really play with her young head. Perhaps I should tell her the story of the Blonz, who got a deal on Epic and were back running cash registers within 18 months!
