It's a dance tune, with very good use of some 70s soul samples for a female vocal loop. I always thought it was pretty good. It is Dave's speak-singing, but a little faster and more toned down volume-wise than on the VH version.

If someone wants to post it - I don't know how to post MP3 - send me a PM and I'll see if I can send you the file.

Not just the two you mentioned. He heard them, just like I did when the VH demos hit the internet, but they weren't the ones Dave was talking about back then, I'm pretty sure.
Good points, but he also said he heard "Tat" at Dave's house back then. I mean it could've been DIF technically but he didn't say that.

Now I know why HBSD sounded familiar - now that you mention it, I remember seeing that same vid with the sped-up NYC traffic (and thinking "WTF?!").

HBSD is from Dave -- it's almost exactly like Flex version 2 from his No Holds BBQ, especially the opening riff

Hard to believe the guy who wrote Mean Street, Atomic Punk, Unchained, House if Pain, and on and on, not only wrote that, but doubled down and actually recorded it. With all of Dave’s undisputed brilliance operating within VH, some of his solo ideas are mind numbingly awful. To my ears, that’s scary bad. Almost like he’s envious of KC and the Sunshine Band.

And FLEX!?!? I don’t even know what to say. At least it’s not an updated disco vibe. Hot mess comes to mind. Thinking lots of booze and drugs were involved with that project. Wow... And not trying to slam Dave. He just has a lot of pure crap solo. And to be fair , Ed does also post Dave. Nothing Dave has done could conceivably top Ed’s How Many Say I. A self indulgent three year old could have done better on that tune. First time in my life a VH song actually depressed me it was so bad.

Staying positive however because 96% of the VH catalog is brilliance for me. (A little lower if you include III!!!

DFVH5150: Your stats are really impressive. I don’t usually read beyond a post, but yours caught my eye:

    STATS:
    BECAME PSYCHO FAN: 12/91
    VAN HALEN W/DAVE: 9x
    VAN HALEN W/SAMMY: 8x
    VAN HALEN W/GARY: 5x
    CHICKENFOOT/THE CIRCLE: 9x
    DAVE SOLO: 13x
    SAMMY SOLO: 15x (W/MONTROSE 1x, @CABO WABO CANTINA 1x)
    GARY/EXTREME/TRIBE OF JUDAH/HURTSMILE: 7x
MET: Sammy 1x, Dave almost 1x, Gary 2x

What’s really surprising is you didn’t even find the bind until 1991, roughly 5 years before Sam’s true departure and about 6 years AFTER Dave already had left. Impressive my friend... I’ve been on board since 78, the very beginning for someone not growing up in Southern California. Your numbers blow me away. Impressive!!

Nobody can question you are the king or at least in in the royal court when it comes to being a hard core fan of Van Halen and everything VH related. Cheers Mate!!

    Good Gawd, that's awful...
HBSD sounds 10x better on ADKOT. Then again, Eddie made every cover song sound better than the originals.

    Yep- I think so too.

In 1999 the VHND published this article update including new song titles stating DLR was intending to hit the studio with Ted Templeman producing.

Of course it didn't materialize assumingly due to David hooking with VH in 2000. There was also another VHND article in '99 or so stating they were recording some of the shows for a possible live album. But I didn't copy that article.

I copied this text from the VHND archives section which they've since discontinued.

    From VHND:

    The Return Of Ted

September 27, 1999 - David Lee Roth has just informed The Inside that he is very pleased to have Ted Templeman as the producer for his next CD.

Dave is keeping his current band and road crew for the next album and tour, both out in early 2000. John Lowery will return as the main songwriting collaborator, although Bart Walsh and Terry Kilgore may also contribute to songwriting. Walsh and Kilgore are expected to handle all guitar duties.

Twelve songs have been written so far. Working titles include Stomping Grounds, Use My Hand, I Won't Look and China Town. There will also be a surprise cover song on the new album, which is yet to be titled.

The DLR Band will head back into the studio one week after the current tour finishes (the last date is at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on October 2.)
