Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders
Taylor Hawkins Taps Chrissie Hynde, Joe Walsh, Duff McKagan for New Song ‘Get the Money’
All-star cut will appear on drummer’s new album of the same name with the Coattail Riders
The Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and his band the Coattail Riders teamed up with Chrissie Hynde, Joe Walsh and Duff McKagan for a simmering new song, “Get the Money,” the title track from their next LP, out November 8th via Shanabele/RCA Records.
“Get the Money” takes several unexpected musical turns, opening like a psych-folk tune, settling into a reggae-tinged groove, going back to that psych-folk vibe before steadily ramping up into a breakneck prog freakout. Throughout the song, Walsh peels off crackling riffs over McKagan’s supple bass while Hawkins and Hynde trade lyrics, singing, “So you think you’re not getting your due/ You’re out of touch and been for a while/ You’re a spoiled brat, think you deserve this crap/ A grown man acting like a child.”
Hawkins and the Coattail Riders announced Get the Money last week, sharing, “Crossed the Line,” which features Dave Grohl and Yes singer Jon Davison. The LP will also feature contributions from Nancy Wilson, LeAnn Rimes, Queen drummer Roger Taylor, Foo Fighters/Germs/Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear and Level 42 frontman Mark King.
Get the Money marks Hawkins’ third album with the Coattail Riders, which also features Chris Chaney, Brent Woods and John Lousteau. The group’s self-titled debut arrived in 2006, while their second LP, Red Light Fever, was released in 2010.

This made me want to listen to it, and I'm a fan of everyone that plays on it. Not a bad tune.Utilize. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
I love coffee and sarcasm.

Is this the same band that Taylor was fronting at a festival this past summer where they played an all CVH set? That was a fun gig to watch. He's not the best singer, but he's got a ton of energy, is a huge fan of Al and VH, and is a pretty damn good drummer.

That was pretty wild! Was that Joe Walsh playing lead in the "prog freakout"? I've never heard him play like that, so I'm thinking no.

Maybe? I saw him with a band called Chevy Metal a few years back and they played a few Van Halen songs. I think those were the only one's he sang as the bass player sang the rest. It was a 3 piece band with Taylor on drums, Chris Shifflett on guitar and some red headed dude on bass. They just played covers and it was a TON of fun.

I will have to see if I can find the YT video. It was a festival and the whole show was filmed. Taylor sang every song, except I think the bassist sang one, and they had a drummer so Taylor primarily just sang. He had his own little kit up there, I think a 3 piece, and he sat in on the drums on a couple tunes so they had some cool double drumming. Everybody Wants Some I recall was one of the songs he played drums. The entire set was nothing but CVH and I think they played for 80 minutes or so. It was originally posted in the Random Shit thread a few months ago. I believe the festival was in May or June.
