After opening the first few shows with YRGM, I remember the night in Madison Square Garden where they opened with Unchained for the first time. Love the crowd's reaction when Ed's blazes into the riff and when Ed starts hopping like a mad rabbit when the whole band kicks in with both Wolf and Dave smiling at Ed.

The mighty Van Halen is what Im here for.

Think I rolled this story before. But, I'll roll it up again.

Short version. My folks got me VH2 on cassette by shear accident when I was like in jr high. Had already seen the early Unchained vids on mtv late night. Had the Zoo on radio play (from DFW) and thought I found gold. They were supposed to get me the album that had YRGM on it. So my actual first album was 2 from VH. We played that fucker for fucking ever. THEN, I realized they had several other records I could purchase on good behavior and grade money all. So was able to go back to the other shit to buy over the years. Didn't get FW till in hikeschool. I was that idiot that rocked the VH logo, like most of yall, on all his books going forward.

Folks mailed me 5150 cassette back when I was an idiot with life and been rocking the brand ever since. Out.

Van Halen’s music has been a part of my life....thru thick and thin.
Friends and relatives know that this is my band. If a song comes on the radio, they have told me that they always think of me. There are are other bands that I enjoy listening to but nothing compares to VH.
Dave is my favorite of the lead singers but I liked Sammy almost as much. Eddie on guitar has been mind blowing. Big Al on the drums....one of my heroes. Mike will always be THE bassist but Wolf held his own.
Gary did what he could in that situation.

Finally, as a live band....simply the best.

Not in my top 10 but every time I hear this song, I think "damn is this perfectly crafted."

Because of this shit right here. Look at these guys. But, this is only but ONE example of why I love this band.

Even tho this band has had so many trials and tribulations over the past, they are by far, the GREATEST ROCK BAND ever assembled. Musicianship, style, charisma, humor, energy....they had and still have it, all.
Love them to the end. Every incarnation of VH has my respect. And, that aint no shit either.

Edit: i forgot to mention, influential. There was nobody like them, but every band wanted to be like them!

My 1st VH memories were of picking up Circus magazine in '83, I believe. & being fascinated by EVH & his striped guitar. My dad collected guitars, so I always had a love for them. After reading that magazine, I picked up "Diver Down" on cassette, & was somewhat hooked. When "1984" & Jump came out, the video did it for me. The Panama & Hot For Teacher songs, & videos were even better. I was a die-hard fan from then on. I used to pretend my 1st guitar, a Peavey T-60 (ugh!) was a Frankenstrat when I played, and EVH has always been my fave guitar influence (although I can't play anything like him). I've seen them 4 times (twice with Sam & twice with Dave), and wish I could have gotten to some more shows, especially when they came in 1984 (was too young), & 2015 (didn't come anywhere near here, and apparently I have to work). My wife suggested we needed new coasters for our living room, & I ended up painting 3 (R/B/W, Y/B & W/B). That's an indicator of my fandom level (along with my striped sneaks). I even bough the Tribe of Judah CD to see what the VH-era written songs Gary used sounded like (not great, for the most part). I still have three EVH-type guitars (EBMM, homemade Frankenstein & a Kramer 5150 aged replica), along with an original 5150 amp....they are my co-favorite band (along with Def Leppard (Steve Clark yay) & Rhoads-era Ozzy), & have ruled my life since I was 13 years old

I’m with you Jungle!! I was at both MSG shows on that tour. When they changed the opener to Unchained for the second show they almost blew the roof off of the garden. The energy was incredible.Truly one of my greatest VH memories!!

What do you hate? What resonates with you the way Phoebe Cates did in that red bikini from Fast Time At Ridgemont High? What makes your meat loaf like the thought of Lena Dunham instead of Phoebe Cates in that same iconic scene. Let's talk about the good, the bad and everything in between.
I was introduced to Van Halen music in 1980 when I went to São Paulo city for the 1st time. It was also there that I got tapes from AC/DC (If You Want Blood...) and The Police (Zenyattà Mondatta). The 1st tune I listened to was Dance the Night Away. I thought everything was just fine and so damn well done that I got hooked immediately, without delay.

What do I love? The drums, the way AVH parts were recorded and to learn even more about it. The Guitar sound and tone. Those little details and crazy stuff EVH does and what a musical genius he IS. The way both brothers get their rhythm so tight and perfect. Those lyrics, man. Dave write some great lyrics. And the harmony they put out together, as a band. Besides The Sabs and Led Zep, I don't recall getting interest into a band that fast as I got to The Mighty One. Like I said, I love reading stuff regarding to Van Halen and learn what was going on when they created their songs so I do own a few GW and GP and other publications. I used to idolize their =VH= II logo and I could draw it in every notebook I had in the 1980s and 1990s. I think all my friends here in Brazil do know me for the love and passion I dedicate to this band. Unfortunately, I never saw them live though I was in São Paulo once again in January of 1983. And had the money saved to see them twice in 1998 (Pacaembu Stadium (09/26) and a possible secret gig). But it never happened and I really don't mind. I feel good for lots of friends had the chance to see the band - It's great to read what was their impressions and stuff.

What do I hate? A few stuff that I don't see the need to discuss.

One thing I love about VH was Eddie's infectious joy. I saw Live Without A Net in probably 1989 for the first time. How can you not love this guy? Watch the "thumbs up" he gives the camera at 0:33. (Not to focus on the negative but the VH of the last 20 years totally betrays everything I associated with these guys when they became my favorite band in 1988.)
