Capital letters, where appropriate, would be cool!

"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - A very wise fan.

Can't speak for the Peavey Ex but the EVH Standard I have is solid. The neck and body are solid. Having said that, all of the electronics are cheap. The pickups sound really damn close to the EVH USA pickups but are made of cheaper quality materials. The pots, toggle switch, input jack, all that type stuff is junk. I was gonna upgrade everything but lost interest. I did play all hell out of it when I first got it. But I have USA EBMM, Peavey, and EVH Wolfs and a MIJ EVH Wolf that are just to easy to pick up and jam. All in all I have been happy with the purchase of the EVH Standard. I had no problem setting the action like the USA model and tone wise it sounds extremely close to the USA as well...

The EVH Standards feel significantly better than the Peavey EX series, in my experience. As evhintexas mentioned, once you replace all the pots and switches you'd be in great shape with a Standard. I've got a Standard as a project platform that I've also used for a ton of gigs and it'd held up super solid.

Neither, I'd get a Sterling (By Music Man) SUB AX4. It's the cheap take on the Ernie Ball, and I actually do have one, and think it's a steal for the price.
I bought the Peavey Wolfgang EX when it came out and the bridge broke into pieces after several minutes of using it. And I can't comment on the cheap EVH model as I don't have one but I do have a Special that I love though.

I can't speak on the low end ernie balls, but the standard is miles above the EX. My ex needed a real neck, pup replacement and bridge replacement.
My standard has a killer neck and stock pups, I but I added bigger brass block on the bridge and titanium string inserts to the saddles & made it 2 vol pots instead of tone to finish it off. - its now my fav guitar & I own real peavey wolfs.
I used it on all my new stuff you can hear a bit hereMusic inspired from my love of VH

I have 2 Standards (1 Floyd, 1 hardtail) that I use for everything... Recording, open mic's, dicking around at home. I've actually put my other guitars away in the cases in my closet and only use the 2 Wolves. They are just rock solid, neck never moves, they are always in tune... I don't even have to think when I pick them up. I'd def recommend as a workhorse guitar that you don't have to worry about....

Reverb
. I also just scored an AX30D prototype in natural quilt off of Reverb also. Thing had been sitting around out at Praxis since 2008 and a place in Indy bought it. I bought it from them. I polished the frets and gave the fretboard the EB Wonder Wipe treatment. What a guitar....

Right on.
Thanks for the reply. I forgot about the AX30's, although I had looked them up on eBay before. Congrats on the score!
I do remember seeing a NOS neck pickup from Eddie's EBMM days on there a few years ago, from an Australian dealer if I recall correctly. Never seen the AXIS pickups offered for sale anywhere other than that, which is why I asked."There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen

My Aunt (RIP) who was a huge Led Zeppelin fan, once said "I could listen to him play all night", about EVH. This was after watching his cadenza solo on LWAN. Obviously I can too, and often have....
