After that i got "Toys", then "Draw the Line" which i STILL feel is super under-rated & raw & funky.

    Finally, i got "Rocks,"

I love every one of those records dearly.

Never liked the Geffen years, though.
Draw the Line rawks. Kings and Queens is an epic track.

Two just smokin' album openers. You can't seriously call these bubble gum. "Heart's Done Time," the feedbacking guitars, the guitar duel breakdown, just awesome. And "Young Lust," breakneck speed!

Always loved Heart's Done Time...great tune. If I recall correctly they opened the PV Tour shows with it.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    What a riff!

Also features an essential Brad Whitford solo.

Then they go into "Hand that feeds," which apparently, Perry isn't even on.
The guitar work, again, is just slammin.'

Then Joe comes back on "Sight for sore eyes," with his strat, and just leans
    on the tremolo.

    That song struts.

    Now I'm on a tangent...

Also not a song they wrote, but possibly my favorite thing they ever did. I think this song changed the way I thought about hard rock. Van Halen, Ratt and Def Leppard had a fast, straight 8th note kind of rhythm thing, but this song has a slinkiness that made me rethink what a riff was.

My favorite drum intro to a song. Maybe my second favorite thing they've done.

And itís a mistake to underestimate Big Ten Inch Record. People like to write it off as a novelty like ACDCís Big Balls, but itís got some unparalleled wicked harp horn axe fusion.

Tylerís a fucking force from on high. Duh.

Blame me, I'm the one who brought Tyler up.

Actually blame my son. He's been playing Sweet Emotion nonstop for the last couple days.

I had to go learn how to play the damn song because he's 8 and thinks I can play anything he asks.

Not that it's hard but i still had to work it up a bit.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Not sure when this was recorded but it couldn't have been too long ago.

And Tyler's older than Dave anyway.
I was just thinking...Dave had a plan for the Van Halen tank to crush the Aerosmith Volkswagen. But for some reason the plan got called off. It was foreshadowing. The Aerosmith Volkswagen never got crushed and kept on rolling.

So somehow no one rolled tape for Van Halen's performance at the Texxas Jam.

I guess since they were relatively unknown at that point I could buy that but it just really surprises me. There's plenty of footage from other acts at the time, you'd think we'd get more than just the Fresno show.

Aero was never a VW lol. VH fans often underestimate them. They were never a lesser entity than VH to the mainstream. They are pretty much two sides of the same coin. If there are more definitive American hard rock bands than Aero and VH, I donít know who they are. Maaaaybe GnR, but GnR doesnít have the early classic catalogue that Aero and VH have.

Lol, GnR coasts to such global appeal on one debut album and half of the two UYI records.

Whatever we think of Rocks, Toys, WACF, and Ď84, the world heralds AFD far above all of that.

Some rare few records just really hit the worldwide zeitgeist across generations. AFD might be the prime example.

Back in Black too. I imagine the 2020 last tour of Acca Dacca will reap lots of green next year.

Aerosmith seemed a lot like the Van Halen/Van Hagar comparison in the mid 80's. Had friends that loved them up through Mirrors, then when they brought in Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, and Holly Knight to write for Permanent Vacation, Pump, and beyond, those same guys never listened anymore. Meanwhile, other friends that never liked them before Vacation became huge fans with that album and beyond. It was like a lot say about the Dave/Sam comparisons - two different bands.

This was an actual plan Dave detailed in his autobiography. They were going to get a yellow Volkswagen and paint the Aerosmith logo on it. Then they were going to make an announcement on the PA for a member of Aerosmith to come move their car. Then a tank with Van Halen written on the side was going to crush the Volkswagen, and the band would jump out and go onstage. But the plan never came together.

You ever hear of a group called Fleetwood Mac? Or the eagles? They toured in 96-94 respectively. So they can get along but VH canít?

Obviously, yes, the members of VH can't seem to get along and tour.

I'll have to go find it but Michael Anthony was specifically asked that a few years ago, basically "look at all these other examples of dysfunctional bands and they still made it work" and his response was pretty much "Uh no, you don't understand how dysfunctional VH is"
