    Default Harry Chapin

Growing up, my dad played Harry Chapin's Greatest Stories Live, along with S&G Bridge Over Troubled Water and a few other albums nearly every weekend.

30,000 Pounds of Bananas was a personal favorite back then and my kids love it today. Gruesome as it is!

I've heard the song Circle a few times lately. The lyrics and the music are very hippiesh, but what I've really taken note of is the inclusion of his roadies and even the cello player in this version of the song. What a genius move to include those folks, that 99.999% of the time are never recognized.

other than the obvious, "Cats in the Cradle" being forced on me at a young age by my mother because of my workaholic father, I never really got much into him.

I've heard the album shown above, but haven't delved too much into his work. From what I've heard, it was often depressing. Taxi, Cats, etc. depressing as all get out. However, in the case of Cats, there is a very small, implied, glimmer of hope. But they tell a story. A glimpse into someone's life, even though that someone is fictional. Very well told stories in musical form.

Went over to Wickedpedia on this song. Its very interseting that Harry never wrote the lyrics. His wife actually did. How far out is that? When I was in Jr High this song was charting and it would pretty much cause me to vomit and change the dial asap looking for some Sabbath,Zep,or Purple.

I always preferred the other guy, who i always confuse with Chapin.

The guy who did "If you could read my mind," and "Sundown."
I think he also did, "Time in a bottle."

There was another guy in the early 80's, who had that really annoying song:
WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEE???? It isn't fair, i want my share...

    Hate that one.

Saw Gordon Lightfoot once was free tickets. The whole crowd was half asleep except for Sundown and Wreck of EF which was the encore.

I used to get "If" by Bread, confused with Croce's "Time in a bottle."

My favorite part of "If," is the watery wah-wah inflections.
