Sadly a lot of my musical heroes are a lot older now and it's interesting to see how they all compensate when they get older. The good ones work to their remaining strengths and find ways to compensate and put on a great show even if it means changing things up. Dave could absolutely do this in so many different ways and put on a good show despite his voice being pretty much toast. Instead he pushes ahead with stuff like this.. it's a bit puzzling to say the least.

Hey everybody gets old but with that you should realize what you can and cannot do. Sammy for his credit is tuning down because yes even he is losing the battle with Father Time. Dave simply ignores this and thinks is vocal chords are Benjamin Button. I have been accused of being a Roth Tard (far from it) and hater of all things Sammy. Dave simply can't sing in his preferred style. Its the truth. No cell phone speakers, no closeness to PA, no bad nights, no rehearsals, etc. He sounds like two raccoons wrastling in a garbage can.

Dave simply needs to watch 2007 and try to emulate that. Doesn't have to do more or less.

In all honestly I believe this Vegas thing won't make it due to ticket sales.

It's not that it's a cell phone video. The Larkin Poe girls have lots of cell phone and webcam videos on their YouTube page and it's how they've built a worldwide following. It's Dave and this band.
I'm getting a maximum 1 in 30 ratio of good audio recordings from these people doing cellphone vids in normal loud PA concert settings. Mostly everything is sounding like garbage over the last 5 years.

Plus... limiters/limiting has zero effect if the incoming dB air pressure is over-working the mic and creating a clipped signal before it reaches any software limiter. Limiting, or any compression software wise, can only happen downstream in the signal chain. Great for lower level sound pressure that still has a quality recording but that's about it. These small form capacitor mics are tiny.

I use a H4N from Zoom to record all high volume settings like band rehearsals with cranked amps and big drums.

It's unfortunate because it would be great if we had quality audio from all these 1000's of people getting the quality video component

Sadly the cellphone audio excuse doesn't explain his matador outfit or his moves on stage. It's as if he has too much energy! It just looks awkward. Except his kicks, they still look cool.

I posted video I took with my $100 prepaid Android phone in this thread and the audio sounds great, and even conversation level in that room, with a concrete floor and wood walls and ceiling, was ear bleeding in person. I've also recorded with the memo function on my phone and gotten clear audio.

Back in the early '90's my band practiced at stage level, but got great recordings on a Radio Shack boom box. A sound guy told me it was because the boom box had a built in limiter that was probably leveling everything off to a nice balance.

I think before it gets to the limiter, the record level has a lot to do with it. Like with my Zoom H2 the input level is adjustable; I think some phones have a lower input level that gives you a lot of headroom in loud environments. My Canon camcorder has never overloaded, either. My old 2010 Canon 35mm would overload and crackle like crazy, though. It's less and less of a problem with newer tech, I think.

After listening to the tunes, Iím more sad than anything. Because no mater what happens Van Halen as I knew it my Van Halen is done. I grew up with the original, I was ok with Sammy hell even the concert I saw with Gary was ok. I was excited for the 2007 reunion , loved it. I went in 2015 and was glad I went but disappointed in Dave. Now hearing Dave was going to Vegas I had hoped he put some work in on the vocals. Itís just not happening . Iíll wait and hope Eddie does something with someone but Iím not counting on it . I will say this about Dave when he was great, he was great.

Is there any way to hear/watch the video now? It seems that all stories on the web linking to the leaked footage pointed to the original recorder's private Facebook page and he has removed them.
