Default Peavey Wolfgang Special - Issues

    Hi folks,

I picked up a used Peavey Wolfgang Special a while back and have noticed a couple of issues.

1). Innotation issues are noticed when playing in the first or second position. It may just be because I'm not used to the bigger frets (thus when playing the chord just pushing it down will cause it to sound out of tune). I may just have to adjust my playing style !!

2). The high E string seems to always want to slip off the neck !! I know this has been posted about in the past, but for the life of me I can't find the discussion (probably buried in another thread)

I'll also note that I have had the guitar go through a full set up at a local guitar shop. I specifically asked about innotation issues, so they were watching for it but said that not much could be done other than not pressing so hard to chord.

    Thanks for any thoughts !!

    Cheers

That's weird, because the Wolf Specials I've owned (USA and EXP) had plenty of room between the E strings and edges of the fretboard(s). I believe they took this into consideration after Ed's EBMM guitars were said to have the same issue you've experienced.

The neck might've shifted in tbe the neck pocket? It's a fairly easy fix, if so. Check the position dots/markers on the front of the fretboard. They should be almost dead centre between the D and G strings all the way up the neck, other than the 12th fret of course... You say the high E is ready to slip off. Does the low E by comparison seem to have a lot of room?

If these address your problem, loosen the neck bolts about a turn each, physically move the neck by the headstock until the dots and strings line up and then retighten the bolts. You'll want to secure the body between your knees or on a table etc. as you do this. Hope this helps.

**Edit** There are YouTube videos that demo this procedure.

I'd say read about set up of electric guitars with bolt on necks. Learn truss rod adjustment. All of this is available on Google. This is a perfect opportunity to learn how to fix these issues rather than pay someone to correct it to their ideas...Loosen the neck bolts slightly and hold the guitar facing you and pull the neck to the right. Hold in place and tighten the bolts back up. Learn the instrument you have...Once you have fixed a few things on your own you will be amazed at how much bullshit and magical nonsense is involved in set up and repair.....
    I apologize RRvH1...I didn't read your post....

The high E typically feels that way. Just a design thing. I think a preference by ed of only bending/vibrato upwards on neck. More or less how it should be.

Intonation issues....obvioisly you have had thebridge set up properly. Make sure non floating.
I had issues with intonation that were fixed by adjusting the height og the string tree behind the locking nut. I raised it so the angle of the strings were only slightly bent. Make sure the string tree isnt too low. Even though you have a locking nit....this can still cause issues, believe or not. Adide from that....you may need to work on light compression when fretting chords on the lower frets.
