I think a lot of the production was more on Vai than Roth. He is one of those guys that I would absolutely love to hear playing through just a half stack and a few pedals. His tone wasn't bad on Flex-able. Once he got into the rack shit, his tone really suffered to my ears. Lynch is a guy who always had great tone, even though he wasn't the technician Vai was/is. I've been watching a lot of his recent club gigs and his playing is much more interesting than it was 30 years ago. One of the few guys that seemed to "grow". Vai lost me after Passion and Warfare. The Whitesnake album was passable, but his tone again absolutely sucked and didn't work in that band.

Hina is a cool little tune.

I'll be there Saturday night the 11th. Likely won't be able to post a brief review until a few days after that. Going into the show expecting to have a blast. I enjoy "Ringmaster" Dave - anything beyond that will be a bonus in my book. Very anxious to hear who is playing in his band.

I believe this is the Bisonette Bros playing in the short-lived touring version of The Electric Light Orchestra in 2000:

Its interesting how we have different takes:
I always felt like Lynch was a technician as well.
He had incredible speed and left hand chops.
Then on that REH video opening, hes got awesome alternatepicking as well.

Vai had chops too, of course, but Lynch was a monster also.

Yngwie undoubtedly had the most technical ability, at that point.

What I meant is that Lynch was never widely regarded as a virtuoso player like Vai was, because he really wasn't. Remember - Vai was Berklee educated (briefly) and jumped right to Frank Zappa's band, starting with transposing his music for different instruments.. Lynch would not have been able to play with Zappa. He did not have that type musical background. He was a shredder yes, had tone for days, and looked the part - and I can listen to him all day over Vai.

I have pretty much everything Lynch ever did on CD, and only the DLR band and passion/warfare of Vai's.

As a guitar player - trying to play a lot of Vai's stuff is extremely intimidating/frustrating if not impossible. Lynch def had more "feel" in my opinion. Vai is almost too good for his own good.

Yngwie in 1984 was on another planet. Yngwie today is complete garbage. I have no idea what happened to that guy. He can barely play anymore.

And at the end of the day - NONE of them could ever write a song like Eddie Van Halen could.

If there a day early I have a hunch the show on the 10th will be the best one. Just a guess

What else did Robbie have to say?

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth" - Todd Wagner

In fairness to Robbie I found him to be rather pleasant and not at all like he was posting. Its why I was so inpatient.
