Ace's sound issue there was he didn't do a 5 minute soundcheck before the show with the Comet...

That said, they did hand him a fucking guitar with a non-functional wireless system to start the show.... That's not Ace's fault.
It's a shame cuz Frehley's Comet was a great band and they'll prob never be onstage together again after that clusterfuck...
Ace's "freak out" is in the Rock Soldiers vid... His monitor is up so loud its feeding back, but Ace still can't hear himself...

It’s been a great ride but hopefully it’s not shut down for good just yet.

Oh man, I was on about the 10th row right in front of the stage for that tour. Greensboro, NC. The Use Your Illusion albums weren't even out, yet, but they were playing a ton of stuff from them.

Skid Row played a good long time, then GnR didn't come on for probably an hour or more. Probably 10pm or maybe a bit after.

They proceeded to play for 3hrs and 45 minutes, the longest show they've ever played. Axl came out on stage after it was over with a timer or stopwatch and said "3:45..YES!".

It was DAMN loud. And I laid out of work the next day.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Dave was as good as I've seen him in 07. Although he was good when I saw him in 94 in a club, too.
But IMO he sang better than he did in 82 and 84, although I will confess that 82 was my first concert ever and it was SO loud that they'd be halfway through the song before I could even make out what song it was sometimes.

And I wonder why I can't hear worth a damn now.

Maiden 83 front row on the right side in front of the PA stacks. First song Where Eagles Dare. Holy cow I'll never forget it sounded amazing. Could feel the breeze from the volume.

    YES

Loudest show I’ve ever been to. Clear as crystal, but LOUD AS FUCK.

My take is that Dave's voice has miles on it and works a lot like a car with a bad transmission. He jumps gears. He can sing okay in his natural range, but even that part of his voice is scratchy from overuse and abuse (talking, smoking, drinking). I expect his lower notes will get smoother and stronger throughout this year if he stay healthy. The upper end of his natural range has sometimes been avoided since he cracks when he belts at times. In 2012 he pretty much stopped belting and tried to use his head voice. In 2015, he did the same approach for a bit but ended up slowly easing back into belting once the head voice failed him enough times.

I honestly don't think Dave ever had control of that high range and don't understand why he keeps going to it, especially when he can still belt in his natural range. Songs that are not going so well for him are "Dance the Night Away" and "Just Like Paradise." I think he should highly consider retiring DTNA for good.

    ...also out of posting retirement.....

Yes. you get it. Those that pay attention can tell, he can still sing (mostly) fine in his natural voice when he's calm & sticks to the melodies that are on 6 iconic records. But he almost always **chooses** to go into some super high registers that were never on record. Part of it is his blues/r&b influence where he tries to scat, yip and yell his way thru songs and change shit up.

And yes DNTA has been rough for years. That's where he goes mostly off script. But also is a pretty high/hard song to sing and goes to show that, yes, in his prime Dave could sing pretty damn good. I've noticed over recent years ATBL has been a good one for him, showing him staying calm and in natural range.

Seems like he makes it harder on himself by singing it the new way.
But listen to him when he reels it in.
    He can still sound good.

I guess he just gets super excited up there, and his voice jumps around a bit.

^^ Yes you get it too 100% ;-) . He brings this on himself mostly. Making it harder and welcoming all the critics, instead of just singing the damn songs like they were recorded, stay clam and mellow out. But he goes way high belting out stuff that was never there. Back in his prime this was similar live (ad-libbing and off script a bit), but back then he actually had a very strong/powerful voice.

Agree the excitement/hyperactive Dave plays a factor (don't think he's growing out of it at his age ). He sorta tries to do everything at once, throw the kitchen sink at every song. Like he's gotta be over the top and on 10 all the time. Same old Dave though ;-) In his prime it worked magically. Just how he's wired.

    Look who's back in circulation!
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.
