I can't imagine the Rob Halford thing surprising anyone!

As awesome as Rob was/is, he was dressed like one of the village people, LOL.
He basically had a neon sign strapped to his back that said: GAY.

Plus, check out some of the lyrics to things like Jawbreaker & Desert Plains....

    Fuck, GRINDER!

    GRINDER....
    Looking for meat.
    GRINDER...
    Wants you to eat.

    Awesome riff & tune, btw.

My all-time favorite song and video from J.P.

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth" - Todd Wagner

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

I cannot stand the music my 17 year old daughter likes. My 22 year old daughter at least likes Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac.

Fuck the millennials, the Z kids are better.

They all know Metallica, because their parents are my age, and PLAYED Metallica.

It's like me growing up & still loving Steely Dan.
My parents played a ton of SD.

And the Z kids like hanging with old folks.

I'm always invited to get togethers, and they get defensive if i blow it off.
    I'm old, dudes!

When i was 21, last thing i wanted to do was chill with some 48 year old co-worker.

These are good kids (GEN Z).

I saw them at the Forum in Inglewood, CA in May of 2018 and they were nothing short of amazing. So were the Doobie Brothers, who opened for them.

The answer to the original question can be found by watching the MTV Monsters of Rock documentary. Van Halen is in pastel poof-pants playing keyboard songs about love. Metallica is playing "Blackened" or "Battery," looking lean and mean, and the audience is going apeshit. Surely Eddie caught a glimpse of that and wondered, "Are we fucked?"

Don't you remember when the Zlozower book came out, you said you were showing it to your co-workers and they reacted like you were talking about Warrant? The "elitist" ones are the EXACT ones who think Van Halen is a hair band! (Kinda surprised to hear U2 is "out," though. It's got to be just those kids.)

So at work yesterday, it's myself and four other "music snobs," except they are in their twenties,
and i'm the old guy they accepted, because i'm a bit of elitist like them.

We got to discussing this new Ken Burns Doc, celebrating Country music & its roots.

At one point i joked, What's his next project gonna be: Hair Metal?

Everyone laughed, and immediately one guy jumped in & said: Ken Burns here, talking with
    Diamond David Lee Roth...

    Everyone laughed even harder.

But there i am, laughing, yet dying a little on the inside, because Roth was the first thing that
kid thought of, after my "Hair Metal" idea.

I guess this IS how VH is percieved by the young general public, even the "elitist" one's.
Lol, or maybe they know youre a huge VH fan. Either way, who cares? Look at tge absolute SHIT music their generation listens to.

Just ran across this awesome Monsters of Rock video. Outstanding quality and camera work. You're right on the stage!

Does it say anything that one of the comments is, "Bored Van Halen crowd xD Pathetic glam twats"?

Well, that was a different group of co-workers (job).

My impression was they barely knew who VH was, just assumed they thought i was rambling
about some "Dad Rock" kinda thing.

But this new batch of kids, are serious music nerds like myself, and they do not know the HC VH fan
    that lurks within me.
I do not allow the old Motley Crue fan to come out, in those circumstances.

But i barely listen to VH today, and the stuff i do fawn over, is stuff i'd probably not
share with you guys (no offense, just different sorts of fans, and eras of music).

CVH is built into my DNA at this point, it's like a reflex, even though i don't spin
    the stuff much anymore.

I tried to get my brother in law to go to the VH show with me in 2012.

He's 5 or 6 years younger than me and made the same hair metal comment we're complaining about here.

The problem is that the three most popular VH videos do little to dispell the idea that VH is part of the hair metal scene. Mostly because of Dave and his image.

Whatever, I don't really care. If you think VH is hair metal than you're ignorant. It's not like Zeppelin and Hendrix didn't wear ridiculous clothes as well.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

    VH is Dad Rock now.

It is what it is. We’re old.

Those side stage videos of Metallica from 1988 MOR were shot by Kirk Hammett's Brother in Law. There are ones for LA and SF 88 also. Very cool stuff.
