I have issues with that list. "Stairway" has too much electric guitar in it to be on that list, as have numerous other songs they picked.

For LZ, they have tons of great acoustic guitar songs, like this one:

And no "Horse with No Name" by America?!?! Wtf?!!?

Eddie Van Halen gave acoustic-shred fetishists much to chew on in 1979 with Spanish Fly, a hummingbird-fast flamenco instrumental from Van Halen II. But guitarists of all stripes found a lot to like in the bluesy-and boozy, slightly off-kilter Could This Be Magic?

The track, which marks the guitarist's first recorded bottleneck moment, finds Eddie's whimsical acoustic slide playing expertly shadowing David Lee Roth's vocal on the verses.

The idea to use a slide came from producer Ted Templeman, and while Eddie was initially leery of trying it, he practiced for a few days and, in typical VH style, pulled off the part with aplomb.

Another first: Could This Be Magic? represents the debut of an outside singer on a Van Halen album. Templeman suggested a different sound for one of the choruses and brought in country singer Nicolette Larson, who was working in a neighboring studio, to lend vocal support. Listen closely following Eddie's slide solo to hear Larson and Diamond Dave make sweet harmonized magic.

However, Take Your Whiskey Home is my favorite of all Ed's acoustic guitar efforts.
Eddie played an electric that was miked for take your whiskey home. You can hear the notes resonate off the plastic pick guard.

I was going to mention that as well. But you know most people think of the Roth as just a showman, not a musician.....

    Are you joking? Honest question...
GW asked Eddie about that tune (if I recall correctly) and the acoustic guitar he used. "I dunno, just some rented job..." or something similar, was his reply.

You can hear the tonality and the inherent finger scrapes on the strings when shifting positions etc. Eddie did record straight to the board, sans amplifier, for the Year to the Day intro (similar to Gilmours' Another Brick in the Wall solo) that was later reamped or EQ'd... But, TYWH ntro? Me thinks not, and shocked if it's anything other than an acoustic guitar.

For once I agree with you.

    Fade to Black? C'mon now.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I’ve never heard that before. It sounds like an acoustic to my ears.

No just my playing guitar the past 33 years. I know what an electric guitar sounds like when it has a pickguard and itís miked. Listen to it. Thereís no resonating in the hole like an acoustic would have. Itís miked pretty close and you can hear the pickguard.

This section from VHND (Thanks Jeff!) mentions an acoustic guitar in the intro (but it’s a quote from Guitar World)

Believe me or donít. To me itís an electric guitar miked. You think itís something else? Great. But Iíve played enough to know what an electric sounds like unplugged.

There's a song on the list that is an acoustic version of a non-acoustic song. That's so stupid. Everlong is not an acoustic song, he just played it for Stern that way once. By that logic, Panama and Beautiful Girls from the Downtown Sessions should qualify.

My unplugged guitar never sounded like that, playing aside.
Not trying to grill you at all. Just that there have been several threads/posts over the years about the 'acoustic' intro to TYWH, and I don't recall ever seeing someone else claim it was an electric, unplugged and mic'd up? Hmmmm.

Nothing from the Downtown Sessions would ever sanely qualify for any "Best Acoustic Song" list... I love VH, and obviously Eddie, yet those were brutal - if we're being honest. Cool to see and have for what they were and the novelty aspect, yet makes me totally get why Ed once said his tunes (by and large) were meant to be played on an electric guitar. He looked and sounded lost, IMO, which is interesting because of his blazing playing on ADKOT....

The last line of the paragraph (before the lyrics are shown) it says “one nimble and bluesy acoustic guitar and vocal intro”.
