Default Ed's color scheme and band logo

My apologies if this has been discussed to death in times past - I am not familiar with all the details of things over the years with the band.

The original Frankenstrat and colors that made Ed famous - see below. It appears that somewhere along the way he completely stopped using the guitar with the colours. I might be way off but when I seen them in Toronto and other clips from shows, etc. all he uses is either a straight black, creme, or plain white color.

Any reason why the Franstrat color scheme was ditched?

Also, what is up with the logo. It appears there is like 38 different variants of the band logo - is this just another of the many dysfunction with the band or is there a reason behind it?

He stopped using the Frankenstrat by 1984 when he started endorsing Kramer. When he stopped endorsing Kramer, he just didnít want to play striped guitars anymore I guess, although he had striped versions of his EBMM and Wolfgang from time to time. People just change.

Not really sure what you mean about the band logo. The band has only had two different style logos. The wings version with Dave, and the rings version with Sam.

The logo was flat, then curved, then wrapped around, then flat again.

Yeah you replied before I could edit my post. The wings (flat) version is with Dave, and the rounded rings version was with Sam. When Dave came back they obviously went back to the original version of the logo.

Heh. Oh, just to clarify... because I bet some have forgot about this, but they did use the same "Sammy era" swirl logo with Gary. So technically that logo was used during the Sammy era AND the one album and tour with Gary.

And as Brett keeps saying, there really were only 2 logos. Sure, they use slight variances, like different color schemes, chrome-looking or solid color, etc. But all bands do that stuff with their logo(s). They like to make changes so they that don't use the exact same logo on all their albums and merch.

Also, some of the logos in those google search results were made by fans, which account for some of those different-looking ones.

Don't forget about the OG logo, before the record contract.

I actually kinda liked the OG logo. Not as much as the wings n' rings, but it was kinda 70's Peachee folder groovy anyway.

I have the long sleeve 'fire' VH3 tour tee with the VH3 rings logo. Actually, the VH3 rings were printed smaller than most Sam Halen ring graphics.

One thing about the VH3 tour...they had some cool merch swag at the stands that year.

Right on! I also enjoy their 1st logo. And the rejected pics they had back then with that blue color effect.

I remember that long sleeve. It was cool. Yes, the VH3 merch was very unique... pretty different selection compared to all other tours, because they had more colored tees. Alex's wife Stine was the one who designed all or most of them.

Van Halen Store actually sold a LOT of VH3 merch that year, even after that shakeup in the band lineup. All those shirts were selling like hotcakes. I wonder how often people wear those VH3 tees now.

I own 01 of these t-shirts, man. And I bought it from the =VH= Store site.
I think I got the neck lace as well. And if I'm not mistaken, the 1st issue of the magazine.
Someday I'll learn how to post pics here so I'll show a certain pic with that specific t-shirt.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of that one. But if you're going there, don't forget about the logo that came three years before that, with the rounded lettering.

    So, it was...

1974 - the rounded edge logo. Call it the original logo, club days logo, Mark Stone logo, or 1974 logo.

1977 - the jagged logo, or mountain range logo. This was designed after they were singed, but was only used on the Looney Tunes promo.

1978 - the iconic winged logo, first seen on VH1 album, released Feb '78.
