I like JB's playing, he's got the rock blues things down. I don't listen to albums on repeat or anything, but I always enjoy it when I hear it.

I don't get anything from Mayer's playing or songs at all, it leaves me completely cold and emotionless.

Josh Smith and Eric Gales are 2 blues guys that I love hearing.

Stevie really looked up to his brother, and would talk up his playing, but there’s no doubt that Stevie was wayy beyond Jimmie.

Hughes/Thrall and JJ Cale? Now that's some nostalgia.

I love JJ's quote about what he did in the 80's.

When later asked how he had spent the Eighties, he replied: ďMowing the lawn and listening to Van Halen and rap.Ē

No doubt. There’s a great documentary about SRV that was discussed in an old thread here maybe a year ago. Really well done. Goes into his strong family connection, his amazing talent and just how brutal it was to follow up his Breakout work. Like all the greats, he had a Unique and instantly recognizable sound. But he was a little more one dimensional than those 4-5 greatest ever (Like Eddie, of course), that made it brutally hard for him to come up with new fresh material. He was a tortured soul ironically until right before he passed away. Very well crafted documentary. If you’re a fan of his, I strongly recommend it. Loved his playing.

SRV was a genius. One of the greatest players ever. Plus he had a great voice too.

This is his "316 from LWAN."

The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I'm a pretty big fan myself. When it comes to gunslingers, SRV is second only to Eddie, for me. It was about the soul. I cannot think of another axe man who played with more heart n' blues. I have my personal top five, and there's the (general) world top five, and very few lists include him in the big top five, which, IMO, is a grievous error.

The world generally goes, Hendrix, Clapton, Page, EVH, and then it's usually a dead heat for 5th place among Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, BB King/Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, and Chuck Berry.

But for my personal top five faves, it's ...

    EVH
    SRV
    Steve Stevens
    Slash
    Jimmy Page
