That video a few posts back ^^^ when he was 14? Whoa! A better player than many, and certainly me. (Thanks, Captain Obvious!)

I've seen that! Great video.. no kidding talent helps! Also a great demonstration of what keeping things simple in terms of effects/pedals can do. I took a stab at a few Line 6 modeling units and while it was fun messing around with the different tones.. that's all I did. I never actually really played songs though it or practice. I just tinkered with settings all the time.. it got kinda overwhelming and horrible for somebody with A.D.D. lol But you're right.. buying stuff is fun! :-D

Yeah, his vintage collection is epic.

I would've liked to have seen BCC. Seems like a better fit for Jason than the Circle, actually. I guess Hughes and Joe don't get along so well. Surprise. It's always the vocalist and the guitarist.

My issue with JB is that i just don't like his voice or songs.

I used to hate that, WHO KILLED JOHN HENERY, song.

And i love Glenn Hughes, especially loved the album he did with Pat Thrall in
    the early 80's.
Yet, BBC does nothing for me.
It's trying really hard to sound classic 70's, yet it's just missing something.

    Richie Kotzen is another guy.

Love his playing, i have forever, since his Shrapnel days.
    Love his voice.

But all his songs do nothing for me.
    Even the Winery Dogs.

I have that cd from Hughes/Thrall.

Pat Travers said that he thought he was a good guitarist , but Pat Thrall was a great guitarist. That Heat in The Street through Crash and Burn, lineup was the shit!

Never really sought out Joe B. Sounds dumb, but he's too popular with the casual crowd for me. The John Mayer syndrome, though I actually dig JM.

Mato Nanji and Indigenous may be someone to check out if you'll dig the blues. Working on going to back to back shows this November.

I saw that dude a few years ago on the Experience Hendrix tour. Great player!

    Nice!

An old coworker turned me on to Indigenous back in the 2000's. Bought several of their albums, but never got the chance to see them till this past November.

There's just something about the blues being played in a tiny club from a cat(and band) that ooze it from their pores.

I have been following Joe B since he was a nobody and used to say the same thing about Mayer. Mayer was hacking it up with Jimmy Vaughn every year at Crossroads yet nothing with Joe B. Now I will say I don't like Joe as much because he is popular. A bit hipsterish I know:-)

That said I am happy for him because he loves guitar, loves to make music and it would have been a shame had he needed to get a regular job. One time I saw him there was like 50 people.

Joe's playing is phenomenal, I really love it. Tones are off the charts too. But I can't stand him or his voice. Something about his voice really bothers me, it sounds strained and fake. And I can't get past his traditionally styled blues lyrics. He's a rich dude in 2019, he's got none of the problems he sings about. Conversely John Mayer may put out bluesy tunes, but they lyrical content is much more authentic.

Granted, outside of a concert my Father-in-Law took me to two years ago, I haven't listened to JB much in a while. Might need to give him another try.

I remember when Mayer first came out, as this pretty boy/pop acoustic player, i
could not stand the guy & his song (I'm gonna scream at the top of my lungs...).

During that time of his debut, i was watching some show similar to Austin City Limits,
and he's featured, but playing a sunburst strat (or brown burst strat).

I was like, Not this fucking guy...

Then he launches into a solo and my fucking jaw hit the floor.
It was like a hybrid of SRV & Mark Knopfler.
Very lyrical, but with bursts of speed and aggression.
And he was so clean and pitch perfect.

Every song, he played his ass off, and he was ridiculously good.

But i was amazed he'd release these albums, where he's kinda strumming and
going for that laid back, Laurel Canyon vibe.

I'm thinking: The guy is a monster guitar player, how is he able to just strum
along like JJ Cale & not care about tearing it up?

I've never seen a player with as much self restraint as Mayer.

GC isn't the technician JB is.

JB is gifted with gobs of speed and endless runs, and you could see he had that
even as a 14 year old.

GC is more a feel/Hendrixy type, where he hits a few bum notes, and it's cool.

    JB is more machine like.

They both play with more soul than speed, and that’s why I compared ‘em to Stevie.

But nobody’s ever gonna play soul like Stevie.
