Good stuff. I never saw that clip. It doesn't surprise me in the least that he can play diatonic scales. The harmonic minor was a nice touch. I can tell by his technique when he plays the blues that he has the shredder side to him. I find playing two note per string pentatonic runs very quickly to be harder than playing three note per strings runs quickly, most players do. It's nice to see him shred like this in public for once.

Ages ago, after he first came out, one of his CD's featured a DVD.
It was so long ago, Joe was playing a strat throughout the show (Which i preferred, he sounds GREAT on
a Fender).
At one point, he starts an unacompannied improv, and starts doing Nuno sounding licks.
I remember thinking, this guy didn't just listen to the British Blues guys...
He also checked out the hair shredders.Graver, Walking Ed, refugee from CVH & proud tone chaser...

I saw clips from the show you're talking about a long time ago. There's no way you can be Joe's age and play guitar and not have been inspired to some degree by some 80's players. I started out with the blues then went into the shredder stuff and in my old age went back to a more bluesy style but I kept the chops up and I still delve into shredder land once in a while. These days I like guys like Josh Smith, Guthrie Trapp, Eric Gales, Tim Pierce. Playing blues well is harder for me than playing sweeps, and fast runs up and down the neck. Especially if you dip into jazz/blues, it's not as simple as I used to think. Although I'm not a huge fan of Joe's music I highly respect him as a guitar player.
