    In an alternate universe, Sammy would have at been like Eddie Money in the 80's. I think both guys are around the same era of music. Like Squier, they had some hits in the early 80's before MTV really took off. The Pat Benetar, Squier, Foreigner, Loverboy, REO, etc era of rock. From about 80-83. So like Money I think Sammy solo probably could have had an album like Can't Hold Back which did give Money a boost. He wouldn't have blown up though. Hell Dave with the backing of riding 1984 and Crazy from the Heat could sustain a solo career for a few years and he was all over MTV. Youth is king and 35-40 year old solo singers really were not being gobbled up by 17 year olds.

    Now maybe later on he could have done something like a Damn Yankees. Maybe him instead of Shaw since he was boys with Ted? I know people here will say "nah Sammy would have been huge. RRHOF solo artist. Bono would have come and knelt before his golden locks and would have kissed the ring..." No it never would have happened. He could have been at best Eddie Money and that's not a bad thing.

    Thankfully for us, we don't have to worry about it.

    Sammy had a career before VH. VH covered him in the clubs and VH called him and asked him to join the band. But yeah he would’ve just disappeared. SMH

    There’s only one VH singer whose entire career depends on VH.

    I just downloaded and listened to the HSAS album in the car yesterday.

    Had it on LP back in the day but never really played it much other than Whiter Shade Of pale, which I used to put on mix tapes. Haven't heard any of it since before Sam joined VH.

    One listen in the car is all I'll need. Sorry I wasted $8 on the download. That's the record everyone praises. Oof! What a dog. Sheesh! Thank God Sam upped his vocal prowse before joining VH... His delivery and lyrics are pretty dull and lame. Even WSOP is a total snooze fest these days. ugh!

    Different strokes. I love that album and think it’s his best work. Definitely better than his solo career.

    Well, I'll just say Sam is the weakest link on the whole thing. So much so for me that it's the first time I've ever found him to be an annoying distraction. He's just not up to the Schonosity that's happening behind him.

    I'll give it another listen over the weekend and try to block Sam out.

    Van Halen made and saved Dave. Sammy was self-made and he saved Van Halen after Dave's departure. Sammy Hagar is the reason the the VH brothers started making any money at all. When Sammy left Van Halen, his career continued to have success and he successfully branded himself through various ventures. His most recent tour with The Circle has been wildly successful. So, Sammy Hagar may actually be the strongest link Van Halen ever had.

    You're making it sound like David joined VH when they were one of the biggest bands in the world as opposed to him being a driving force to them becoming that.
