LOL, now I'm a part of the "Dave crowd."

I'm not particularly pro Dave as much as I like the music they made better and I like Ed's playing from that era better. I'm not really a Dave fan outside of Van Halen and I find his schtick to be tiresome when it lasts longer than a minute or two.

That said, in the context of Van Halen I like his voice and his lyrical treatment of the songs better.

Also I've really come to dislike Sam over the past decade or so with his constant complaining and slamming of Van Halen and Edward in particular. He doesn't need to do that, he has his own band and everyone is aware of what he and the band accomplished while he was in Van Halen.

I guess if that makes me part of the "Dave crowd" then so be it.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

LD knew what he was doing. And it will work.

Too bad. I really like seeing guys like salg, bsbll4, and mike zack, stay above the fray, and simply comment about a band whose music they enjoyed.

I loved the Sammy years and the Dave years. There hasn't been much to love about this band since the summer of 1996. 2 studio albums since Balance dropped in January 1995. That is sad and pathetic.

I think it’s funny that it’s implied that Sammy is being complimentary of Van Halen because he was lobbying to be back in the band in 2014.

I’m as big of a Hagar fan as anyone and I’ve never known this interview to even exist. I doubt Sammy thought if he was sincere about his time with the band that the brothers would somehow see this interview and invite him back. Lol

He is so transparent and opportunistically changes his tone that good or bad anything he says Van Halen wise is just white noise. He has a brilliant career and when he speaks about 4 of the 5 decades it is awesome. When he speaks on the one decade in VH it is meaningless either way to me and reflects his current mood or whatever. Whatever, overall he comes off badly so often talking VH it just all gets tuned out good or bad none of it feels sincere. It is stark because he comes off sincere on his other 4 decades which he does vary on from interview to interview. Hard pass at this point on Sam talking VH, lost credibility with me
Well I never said this would erase anything. It's just one interview, at one point in time. The existence of this interview obviously doesn't erase the other ones he's given. And who truly knows when Sam, Dave, Ed or Al are sincere or not?

All we can do is take the interview at face value. It's a positive interview, but I never said it made Sammy a saint!

Now the ppl who want to bring some negative energy into this, it's on them.

If forming an opinion based on population data rather than data.mining a single point is negative then ok I am negative. That population data is created by the subject himself not the observer. The conclusion can vary but yes population data will always be more meaningful than any single data point, just an empirical fact. And this is especially true when the data set has large variability. That is not saying he is the devil either but that any single data point does not outweigh the overall data set.
