Yeah I just like the way the 5150 looks clean. The lines are pretty clean. The Frank always seemed to me that it looked beat up, and the paint was always kind of a mess anyway.

Ahh, sorry I'm late to the party again, Brett!! Definitely go with the official VH Store space tape. Jedi is correct that it's not 100% but it's the perfect shade and ticks a lot of other boxes that the other options don't. After you apply it, you might notice some sharp corners of lifted areas. Just take a toothpick and a tiny dab of super glue on there.

The pulls and chips that happen like that happen fairly often for me, must just be a characteristic of the wood I guess! Luckily I'm always doing relics .

The red at this stage is REALLY fragile, so be careful! Even your fingernail could scuff this stuff. The schwinn I used to use was even more fragile early on!

Did you buy the enamel black? That spray is very fine, so I would definitely suggest misting the lines first to seal any gaps. Also be careful taping for black, and don't be surprised if you experiences a few more spots of white coming up here and there. Wise of you to wait until afterward to patch them! I know you've gone through a lot of paint already, but you might want to pick up some clear enamel. Even if you don't clear the body, you'll need to clear over the logo on the headstock for it to stay on there well.

Just take your time, it's looking great!!

    Default Kramer 5150 Colors

So I havenít literally touched the guitar since Sunday. I put it in my office that night and havenít even put a finger on it since. So the red paint should be good I havenít done a thing yet.

I bought the same enamel black as the orange/red. Iím going to tape it up on Saturday and paint it that day so that should be a good six days of being left alone. It should be pretty hardened.

I finished it up tonight guys, I just have to put the back plate on and I have one more touchup to make and Iíll post some pics. It just kind of came together tonight when I got home from my trip, I didnít expect to be able to slap it all together but I did. Plays super nice, I donít think Iím ever going to buy anything but a real Floyd Rose again. It made such a huge difference in everything.

Wow. That is fantastic, Brett! Amazing job.

Also, I guess I never realized, or dont remember, you having an Unchained/Circles guitar, which is one of my all time favs of Ed's. I'd like to see some pics of that one, too!

Looks great! Color really is spot on. How many coats or how much of the can of Chevy Red Orange did you use?

    Thanks man!

Yeah I did that one about five years ago, Iíll take some pics of it and put them up. Itís not 100% accurate because there were a couple things I wanted based on how I play, but itís close.

    Yeah I love the color.

I didnít quite use the whole can because Iíve had some left to touch it up with. I would say I did two light coats and then two heavier coats. And you really have to let it sit a couple days before you touch it, because you can nick it so easily. I nicked it and it had been like 10 days. But I donít think you can get a better paint color for it. And you really have to use the Ford Wimbledon White as well.

I was shocked at how quickly I got it together yesterday. I flew in at about 5, I took a nap till about 7, and by midnight I had the whole thing assembled, set up and I was playing it. Although I did forget to put the trem claw groundwire and I had to do that this morning. Haha. It just went together so easily and so well, Iíve never had one go this smoothly. I didnít have to shim the neck or anything. Iím waiting for something bad to happen.

    Fantastic job, Brett!!
It looks great, and I'm with you about preferring the clean look as opposed to relic'd on the 5150. Will you/did you put a light clear coat on it to preserve the paint job?
