To me the most ironic thing about the bee is that when I was going to buy my first guitar and didnt know shit about them I thought I could go to the store and get a 5150 Kramer.

So I go to Guitar Center with my dad and look around and there's no 5150 Kramers but there was a bee hanging up in the wall. I didn't know at the time that Ed had a bee (or that the original Frankie was white), so I thought it was odd. But since I really wanted a guitar and it looked like the 5150 only in a different color I told my dad to get it down.

It was like 8 or 9 hundred dollars and my dad said "no." He figured I'd play it for a month and then give up.

Man if he and I had known. Pretty sure it was a Charvel that was unauthorized. This was early 90s.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

That said - these are over priced, even when considering they're really collector's pieces.
Exactly. Fuck, you guys ragging on Ed arent being forced to buy them.

Just Ed making a buck or 12,000 off his guitar deity-like status... Nothing wrong with Capitalism.

I suppose. Honestly, I'm so over the insanely priced replica stuff that I just don't care anymore. These things are out of the reach of 99% of fans. Just like with the Fender SRV #1 replica that goes for $50K. If I was going to spend that kinda coin, it would be on a REAL vintage guitar.

They've probably sold most of them already.

    Free market, Capitalism, yadda, yadda...

To me, his integrity takes a hit, with all these "tribute" models.
19 grand is just dumb, especially for those that actually buy it.

You look at guys like Clapton & Gilmour auctioning the original gear, and
donating every penny to helping people.

Ed is more, mine all mine. (no pun intended).

See now Ed is one thing. He's still alive. I get it. WHO is making the money off a 50k SRV replica? The guy has been dead for almost 30 years. Was divorced and didn't have children. I'm sure his parents are gone, so is it brother Jimmie that is raking in all that coin????

The other 2 that bug me is Hendrix and Marley. Well Bob had like 23 kids so I can understand them marketing the likeness of their dad to make money. But Hendrix, another guy dead and buried 40+ years. Not married, no kids. Who is making that money on all the Hendrix gear that Fender sells, like $50 purple guitar cords and shit? Marilyn Monroe? Divorced, no kids. Who owns her likeness? Just thinking out loud here....

And I wonder why Fender/Jackson hasn't released a sort of official Randy Rhoads Polka Dot V in a long time? I know they had one years ago, haven't seen them around. His brother and sister are still alive and you think would be marketing him a bit more.

    Excellent point...

Maybe they don't have 29 year old kids whose lifestyle they need to finance for the next 50 years...

But no one is forcing people to buy them.

I think its dumb too but it doesn't matter what I think. The only thing that matters is if there is a willing buyer.

That's the beauty of free markets and capitalism. You can think its dumb, and so can I. And Ed can hawk his stuff for whatever he wants to charge and for whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Yep. The market will bear what it will. Good on him for building a successful brand, especially since people on here love accusing him of being an idiot businesswise.

Doesn't matter. Ed is a capitalist which means he's greedy in the eyes of some.

This is sort of a microcosm of why we have an idiotic socialist movement growing inside the most prosperous free market country the world has ever seen.

    Why?

Shouldn't he be able to profit off the brand he built? If not, who should?

It is beginning to get tiresome.

    I don't understand the mentality.

If Ed can get 15 grand for one of his guitars my thoughts are, "Good for him."

We see a lot of this stuff directed at him here for some reason.

Sam hawks tequila, Mike hawks hot sauce, Dave does his tattoo cream and that's all cool.

But Ed's a fucking greedy asshole for hawking guitars that he made famous.

    I don't get it.

    Default 79 Bumblebee Tribute Model

You realize most people are angry because Ed doesn’t make music anymore right? If he did I am pretty sure most of the bitterness towards his instruments would go away.

I still don’t get him paying an homage to a guitar that he himself did not like.
