Get Up was necessary to the pacing of 5150. I hate records with the same tempo from the first to the last song. VH always used to have a fast song or two in there, and it was a good way to add some variety to a record.

    That's tough.

Damn ... It has to be a tie here. Love'em both, Fools and Whiskey Home.

I even remember buying W&CF way back to 1982 at Discodil (a local record store) after my english classes.

The intro to Fools is wicked from the rolled down volume & blues licks to the obvious shred that follows. The core tune itself never really did much for me since I was about 17 or so, aside from some cool licks/fills/leads by Eddie.

Whiskey also has a wicked intro, and I like the main riff and variations more overall, and the structure of the song itself. Eddie also has some blazing solos to cap it off for me. TYWH!

That's an interesting take, and I appreciate it. That being said, I would have much rather had a finished version of I Want Some Action over Get Up. To me, Get Up got in the way of one of the greatest consecutive song stretches on a VH album. For me, Good Enough, WCTBL, Dreams, Summer Nights, BOBW, Love Walks In, 5150, I Want Some Action and Inside would be THE perfect Van Halen album.

I agree with you about the pacing.

It comes in at the right time, and the actual lone guitar intro, i think is cool.
But then it becomes this really dumb riff & song.

Jape, I don't disagree with your assessment of Get Up. Did you like the demo for I Want Some Action? I think it could have been polished into a pretty damn good song. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, i liked that song & was surprised they didn't use it.

Did they think it was too close to "Good Enough," as a solid, mid paced rocker?

But i think sandwiched between WCTBL? and Dreams, you do need a heavier track
to kind of keep things on track.

Sadly, they had a good intro, but a half baked tune.

Ed probably didn't want another song about pussy. I'm being serious.

But at the time, there was the excitement of a new band, and Ed is non-confrontational. Instead of saying "hey, could you come up with something else?", Ed simply moved on.

    Pure speculation of course.

Can anyone name the song that features the Kramer Ferrington?

Hint: It's overdubbed underneath a keyboard line.

You can really hear it with headphones (the Ferrington).

I actually wished they brought up the guitar lines in dreams. Saturated with keys...you know the guitar is there, just pushed down really low in the overall mix. I prefer the live version where the guitar is more front and center, especially the chugging pedal tones at the beginning when the drums kick in. They should have brought up the guitar there.

More guitar and less keyboards is always a good thing, especially when it comes to Van Halen.
