Someone told me a long time ago that you have to look at Roth and the Van Halen brothers as a family. They have known each other since they were teenagers and when you know someone that long it becomes a familial relationship even if you don't "get along" in the friendship sense. Think of someone you've known for 46-47 years (like Dave and the Van Halens have known each other) there is a bond that is pretty unique to them.
But if I had that relationship with someone I wouldn't tell the media we aren't friends all the time. I'm not saying they are great friends but the hatred thing is Roth stoking that same fire before the next cycle.

I think it's gotten to the point that they are just poking the bear. At a certain level, no matter what they say, it's going to be the same story, so fuck it, have some fun with it.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I agree. That sucked what they did too him. Honestly, If I was him, as soon as Ed started screwing me over I woulda beat his ass and quit that shit for good! And that woulda been way before all that happen.

They did the same too him for the '04 reunion....everyone went to that. This aint no different.

Sure it would be cool as fuck for us TRUE hardcore VH fans, but we only make up that 2% of the ticket buying public. The other 98% go to hear "The Hits!" and post pics from the show on facebook to impress their "friends"

You also aren't getting a 2 hour show out of Hagar era only songs. And Eddie and Al aren't going to play a bunch of Sammy solo songs, Montrose covers, Zeppelin covers to fill out a 2 hour set list.

It's not about what the public knows or cares about the band. Tours are about promotion. The commercials will be "the original VH is back"....it's something to promote. Believe it or not, people will be enticed by this. People who might not have went might go now. Promotion works. Just like tons of people will buy a BK taco.

I think it would be higher than 2% but even if it is 2%, that's better than 2% in the other direction. Which, is what they are banking on. And that 2% thru the course of the whole tour will add up to nice chunk of change.

The biggest threat to artists these days are the ticket prices, themselves. A lot of people don't have $60 to sit on the lawn.

A lot of us here grew up with both era's. And a lot of us only got to see the Hagar tours. All of them. And a reunion. I didn't see the reunion but most did. After awhile it just got to a "been there dun that" sorta thing. The 90's tours they were playing the same ole ATBL, YRGM, Panama....that shit started pissing me off. Then, the good stuff from the first two records were being ignored....
While we loved what they did, those years, that routine was just getting too old, man. Oh, and they had to play " Eagles Fly every tour..

With Dave, we got to hear tons of songs we never seen live. Every tour different songs. While Dave is my fav, it's also about keeping it fresh. If they were playing the same songs every tour that would irk me, too.

Unfortunately, with Sam, at this point in time, all those pop hits they'll have to play, the "Eagles Fly" stuff they'll have to play, same old ATBL, YRGM....it doesn't entice us old guys as much.

Dave era has the ability to play LUTS or DDL's. Sam doesn't have the ability to play 5150, AFU and the other good ones. That's a factor for us "Dave" fans who also appreciate the Sam era, as well.

Well if they wanted, they could do a cool Hagar setlist with Summer Nights, AFU, Seventh Seal, Won't Get Fooled Again, etc. The material is there. All you need is the will to do it.

Apparently with Dave, Wolf made the setlist - which means the original 3 weren't hell bent on doing album tracks, Wolfie had to convince them. Someone could make a cool Van Hagar set list. It's doable.

I believe Dave has final say on the setlist.

There's a Sam solo video that shows him and Eddie at their actual Malibu houses. When you consider they could just sit sunning themselves on their deck all day, then someone says, "Some people at a hockey arena in Milwaukee want to see you," I can imagine how the answer would be, "Fuck 'em!"

He does. Which is why we didnt get As Is, but we do get stuff like LUTS, IASR, and even Dave reading the lyrics to Hang Em High off Al's riser the two times they did that.

That was the result of his own ADD. He approved the setlist but was busy and just yes to whatever to Al and hence hang em high got in the setlist and lyric sheet was needed. You will notice Al laughing throughout cause he knew Dave just yessed him and was paying the price. A cool moment

Are you sure that wasn't to see if you qualified for the AARP discount? Hey, it saved me $1 at miniature golf last night.

You want another great jazz drummer who played with two of the most famous bandleaders, Art, there was the criminally forgotten Rufus "Speedy" Jones who played with Duke Ellington and Count Basie. His high sticking and cross sticking was the stuff of legends, and his nickname fit him, as he truly was one of the fastest cats to ever sit behind a kit. Also one of the early double bass players. These two videos arent too long, but they give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Sadly, Rufus ended his days in obscurity as a bathroom attendant in Las Vegas casinos, suffering from, IIRC, debilitating arthritis that sapped him of his speed. Died in 1990 at the tender age of 53. I figured you might appreciate this guy, if you havent already seen him.

Yes, it was easily one of the best moments of the ADKOT tour when they actually whipped that tune out. Of course, its one of the six pack tunes with the most lyrics lol.
