    Default Billy Strings

I came across this guy last year totally by accident. I was at a music festival watching Brian Setzer and it started raining so we ran to this big tent where these guys were THROWING IT DOWN up on this little stage.

This guy is a phenomenal flat picker and his band is fantastic.

I dug Billy Strings more before the freaky tattoos and blatant jamband marketing. He can definitely rip, though! I'm guessing you and I and the other guy here who likes Drive-by Truckers will be the only ones to like this. If he did this same thing through a Marshall stack he would've already been a topic of discussion here for a couple of years now.

I was kind of surprised to learn people around here donít like some of the other stuff we tend to like outside of CH. They often like their music served up by someone who has dated a stripper.

I just dig people that try to bring me something different each show

TJENZ, that's the other guy I was thinking of who might like Billy Strings.

You gotta check out that clip I posted. He blows about a full minute of an awesome solo before the song starts.

I've been on a big kick with this stuff. Just got two Old & In the Way CD's, which was Jerry Garcia's bluegrass band. Also ordered a couple of Bill Monroe box sets and two Stanley Brothers compilations.

I got really into that stuff between 1998-2002. The first band I was aware of in that style was Blueground Undergrass featuring Jeff Mosier, who was part of the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Then I found Leftover Salmon and String Cheese. I got to interview Vince Herman of LoS once and asked him where they came up with their style and he said Newgrass Revival was the wellspring. Jeff Mosier later said yes, Newgrass Revival was his Beatles.

My mouth is sore from recommending Tyler Childers' first two acoustic albums so much. An old album (1999) you also might love is Larry Keel's "The Sound."

LOL. Yeah you know there's not much I don't like, Art.
HOLY CRAP! You're right! That was killer! Love that open string descending thing he does around 1:48. That tune is one big jam. The other guy is rocking that mandolin.
If you love guitar pretty easy to love this. Wish I could play like that.

They should call that the "Porch" concert series. Cool idea, regardless.

Keel is rockin', too. Great riff, some cool melodies, killer solos...
Love the ending, too. Reminds me of Unchained a little.
