I do not think Eddie or Alex would agree that MOAM or INO would rank in the same league as IASR and Romeo.

APB is so cool. Edís tone on that is such a perfect fit. Canít get into FSG though, but the solo is a good groove. But an EVH solo is like pizza, some are better than others, but Iíll always eat it up

Ed is KILLING the tone on APB. It just makes me pine for more bluesy VH over the years. Lots of guys are more hair metal / heavy metal oriented when it comes to mixing their VH, some guys even go to the extreme pseudo glam fringe on the Sam Halen side I guess, but me, I've always been a bluesman more than a metal guy, and it's probably why I focus on Ed's rhythm playing more than his showboating, 'cause I'm of the op that Ed's the finest rhythm player I've ever heard, and IMO he shines most brightly when he's emoting blues-based riffs rather than flashy gimmicks.

I'd have gobbled up a lot more tunes like Secrets, PCTS, CTBM, and APB given a choice over the years.

Iím with you there, Ed has some great blues playing chops and itís why you have to see him live when they do breakdowns and all of a sudden bust into crossroads
It sounds stupid, but I would have given anything to see Ed show up in something like the Blues Brothers musicians montage with the likes of BB King and Clapton etc, just imagine that jam session

If OU812 sounded like FUCK it would really crush it. Still better from a song standpoint

Sounds like a fuckin' dream, not stupid. I'd have paid BIG dough to see Ed jam with BB or Clapton or Buddy Guy or T Bone Burnett, or Bonamassa.

I always figure TFB to be kinda a Van Halenized speedball of a blues fusion track, and not just 'cuz Dave's slinging harp on it, but 'cause Ed's slurpy tone on it is so fat. DD and WACF clearly have the most bluesy tones of all ten of the VH records, prob why they're my second and third fave VH albums.

Haha. I slag the UsFest a lot, 'cause it was a disappointing day toward the tail end of it. But I do remember TFB, and Ed and Al and Mike were killing it.

    Def OU812 over FUCK.

OU812 still had a whiff of the old EVH on things like AFU & Black and Blue.

I was listening to Black & Blue, recently.
The guitar playing is so ratty and GOOD!
I just love the greasy feel of it, the sort of DDL like "behind the beat" swagger.
And i love that little droning melody he does before, Don't draw the line.

    I dig the solo, too.
Sounds like he's semi drunk or baked, and just throwing it all out there.
Super loose, just like the outro.

Good call on the BAB and DDL comparison. A couple of great tunes with such cool laid back grooves.

Yep, OU812 I liked when it came out, probably because it was "the new VH record" but it has not stood the test of time for me. A few songs, but that's it.

F.U.C.K is much better. Less filler. A few catchy tunes for the radio, and some "deep cut" type of stuff like Pleasure Dome.

About the only song I never cared for a whole lot was Man on a Mission.

But song for song, it blows OU812 out of the water for me. Probably doesn't help matters that OU812 sounds like absolute garbage, acoustically.
That, and OU812 just didn't rock enough. It's okay, and they had a lot of radio hits the ladies liked, but there's better songs on F.U.C.K., that rock. Even the popular songs on that album rock more.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

I think F.U.C.K. is basically half killer and half filler. The songwriting started to become bloated and self-indulgent. That trend continued on Balance and went full throttle on VH III.

    Simple answers:

    1. Sam wouldn't sing 'em.
    2. Dave won't sing 'em.

And the rest of your post is spot on.

It is awesome, but I'm one of those weird VH fans that thinks they have so many songs so much better. It's easily my least favorite of the double time boogie shuffles from the Dave era.

And on DD, I like Little Guitars, Hang Em High, Secrets, and WHATGTG more than Bug.
