A lot better than I remember.

Pictures great looks best ever of this gig. Audio sucks though.

There is NO comparison in quality. Even the highlight show that was broadcast on Showtime during the following year after the festival that I have a copy of and that's been in bootleg circles for years doesn't compare to the quality (especially audio) of the officially released dvds from Judas Priest and Quiet Riot and Triumph, that last one being done in DTS sound.

There are plenty examples of masters finally being released of bootlegged shows and they are often shockingly better than what everyone just got used to over the years. You can't go back. Or look at the original 60s era videos that Pink Floyd and The Beatles went back and cleaned up and released in box sets. They are mind blowing in their clarity and color and sound.

This band's legacy deserves so much more, it's just astonishing that a band this important and big for so long treats its own history as worthless.

I always hear "Eddie's too much of a perfectionist to release old stuff". If there was really any truth to that wouldn't he be scrambling to get the highest quality version out there of what people are already seeing anyway, to make them look and sound so much better? It's already out of the barn.
It pisses me off, too. All the advancements in the industries and we're supposed to be happy with a YT video? And every band in the world is releasing material but VH somehow find it a burden.
Ed knows what the fans want. He just doesn't wanna be bothered with it.

I agree. If he's such perfectionist he'd be fixing stuff. Or yanking it off YT cuz it's so sub par.

Kinda sucks. As great as YT is it's been used against us, in the case of VH.

I've always (well, I watched it live on TV and then just found a bootleg a few years ago) thought this was the greatest concert ever. Starts off a wasted mess, but gets better and better as it goes. Pure Van Halen at their peak, for me.

To truly capture or experience VH at their peaks, one needed to attend in person the Vacation tour, the Invasion tour, the 'Warning tour, the South American leg of the 'Sheep tour, the 5150 tour, the mini-OU812 tour, or the FUCK tour.

Those years and shows were VH's finest hours.

    I’d throw 1993 in there.

That's fair. Really, '93 was essentially a third leg continuation of '91 and '92, but yeah, the RHRN tour was a monster.

I don't think they were that bad at the US Festival. A little sloppy here and there but mostly it was pretty awesome.

I just think that with their ever-dwindling fan base, the cost and time to do this, their age etc... it just doesn't make sense to them or Warners/whatever label they're apparently on now to release this. I wonder if they could allow someone else to legitimately do it though ?

Hey, it'd be nice if Ed had a Jimmy Page approach to the VH archives, but he doesn't and clearly isn't and hasn't been bothered over the years. A huge waste and frustration for us as fans, but we have to accept that it's highly unlikely to change, especially as they get older and do less and less.

Personally I'm surprised that Dave hasn't pushed for this and/or archives from their heyday to be released - but I guess he only owns 'x' percentage of it and he needs sign-off from 'the Brothers'.....
Does the noise in my head bother you ?

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I know for me, it was the first time I ever "saw" Van Halen (on TV, but still...) and the first time is always pretty memorable. They were everything they were supposed to be - rockin', funny, loud, wild and wasted! AND it's actually been video documented, so there's that too. It's not some "you should have seen the fish that got away" concert.

They should release this like the other bands that were there that weekend, and also the other 1982 show's that were Pro-Shot...……..
