the thing is you could have posted that exact quote dozens of times over the last 20+ years and it would not be out of place at all.

Props to Dave for at least getting out there and actually saying SOMETHING about the band.

I picture the meeting going like this:

Dave: We got one last shot. Wolf's got his own album, he's drumming for the dude in
Sevendust, do we just bring Mike back & go out like we went in?

    Eddie: Meh...

Al: We could go back to 5150 and write maybe four new things, see if it flows...

    Eddie: Meh...

Dave: If that's too much, we've got some good stuff already in the can from the ADKOT sessions.

    Eddie: Meh...

Al: Vegas. Easy money. Let's do a residency thing.

    Eddie: Meh...

Sammy: I know you guys are in there, i can hear you talking. Let me in!

    Eddie: Meh...

I cant remember exactly where i first read it, but the way the story went, Jan told both brothers not to end up like him. Alex, it seems, took that to heart. And it's not too surprising that he was able to get sober so quickly, as he has always seemed to be a very disciplined person as he has gotten older. Think of when Sam said he was the most dedicated hardest working musician he'd ever seen, when Al was practicing hours a day every day perfecting his craft.

The dynamics between Alex and Eddie during that time must have been kind of weird, given the opposite paths they chose.

I love how Jan says don't end up like me, but was feeding the kids vodka & cigarettes,
    when they were like 12.

I think the story was that Ed was bit by a dog or something, and Jan said: Just down this shot.

Then you see pics of Ed, at like 13, and he's already chain smoking...LOL.

Don't end up like me, kid.

Too late, Dad, i am you.

But credit to Alex for having the discipline & strength to drop it cold turkey.
He was drunk 24/7 for a long time, so that is just a tremendously strong willed individual.

If they do end up doing something, DLR has to do something about his hair Bad enough in 2015, when he looked like a bald plumber (no disrespect meant to actual bald plumbers here lol), but now he literally is morphing into this:

Nah, he passed the Dr. Evil stage a couple of years ago. His most recent look is trending towards Professor Farnsworth from Futurama:

Al sobered up after the entire band and family did an intervention with him, according to Sam's book.

Roth has a major hook nose, now.

I've noticed my ears seem larger now, like old guy ears.

It's weird how your features become exaggerated, as you age.

Your ears and your nose keep growing unfortunately. Man, I am going to be one ugly fucking old dude. And I'm ugly now. Thank God women care about money.

Also, speculation on member's health, being fired or other drama well sometimes a poorly managed organization fails to make decisions because the market makes it for them. There is not always a dramatic reason for stuff not happening and in the case of VH it is just interest, and organization that more often are culprits than people dying, being fired, blah blah blah.
