And if a miracle happened, and they did, would they even bother releasing it?
I think you're probably right, but presumably if any unreleased music had been earmarked for future release, it would would be the left overs from the ADKOT sessions, right? Didn't only 50% of their new recordings make the final album cut?

Valid point, and i'd prefer hearing those to anything they'd do now (Dave's in a different
    musical head space).

That would be cool if they released those, but i'm not sure they'd think:
Hey, it's seven years later....let's put these out!

Maybe there's some old album cover artwork that needs some freshening up...
    Yeah, or that way.

I think this would be different from past decisions, though. Being I don't see Sam, or any other singer replacing Dave. It would essentially be over. I think in this situation they tell him, someway, it's over.

Always energetic and smiling, there's something a little different about Dave in that interview. His deliriously happy quotient has ratcheted-up...so I wonder if just the promise of a meeting has Dave spiraling. Now, that meeting easily could be "Dave, we're done" or "Dave, you're done" but he's pretty psyched up about hit.

He also said something at the end...about promising to keep quiet...that leads me to believe Dave may have received some instructions from and may actually have a future discussion with the VHs - for better or worse.

I think Alex is a rancher on the horse farm he owns with his wife. Sammy just did a pretty cool interview with Lance Armstrong and he mentions that Alex is pretty cool. It sounds like Sammy knows that Ed will likely never speak to him again because of the things he said in his book. I would bet that Alex is enjoying his family and his ranch. If Eddie were to decide to fire things up again then Alex is probably just waiting for the green light. Either way I would imagine that Alex must have to practice to keep his chops up. A VH concert is kind of like running a marathon and while Alex still looks to be in great shape, he is 66 years old. 66 happens to be the age that their father was when he passed away so I wonder if either of them think about that. I think Eddie has lived a much harder life than Alex as Alex seemed to quite drinking for the most part around 1987. The both smoked for a ton of years though and that can come back to haunt you.

I'm sure Al still practices to keep his chops up. Both brothers were very close to Jan, so I'm sure they probably do think about their ages in relation to when he passed. Also, Al sobered up in 87 as a promise to Jan who of course had just passed in late 86.

    I never knew that!

Edit: I mean I know he sobered up in 87, I just didn't know that was the specific reason.

I think the meeting will be a pitch to the brothers to join Dave's tattoo business or maybe give them a set of matching train conductor hats with their names sewn at the top like Rusty from European Vacation

Every cycle they go through 4 or 5 options. Since ADKOT revisiting the leftovers has not been an option that got much consideration. IF they do something it will be material written AFTER ADKOT. The guy who did the interview also separately posted it was imminent. Given the decision making of the organization using terms like that can best be described as very optimistic. Also, speculation on member's health, being fired or other drama well sometimes a poorly managed organization fails to make decisions because the market makes it for them. There is not always a dramatic reason for stuff not happening and in the case of VH it is just interest, and organization that more often are culprits than people dying, being fired, blah blah blah.

Well, they might do something...they might not.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
