I was thinking that, regardless of future reunions (personally, I don't see it ever happening), now would be the perfect time for the various VH "players" to open the vaults and closets and release everything we know is exists but have never heard.

Even if Ed is sincere in his desire to move forward with a new singer or in a new direction, release the unreleased Dave-era VH or Sammy-era VH would close the book on those subjects and allow for a fresh start.

Dave should also contemplate a similar release -- it would help to put the odd BBQ DVD in context. The BBQ, stuff from Vegas, the Ice Cream Man video, and any unreleased EEAS and Skyscrpaer band material would show the BBQ video for what it was intended to be -- a musical wandering of a free spirit. Sometimes you wander and stumble upon "Gigolo" and "California Girls" other times you wander and end up with your dick in your hands, literally.

Dave and/or VH can do the unreleased material even without a major worldwide label. I just bought Steve Vai's first installment of his boxed set which is only being sold through www.vai.com. First 1/2 of 100,000 limited units have sold out without a major retail outlet.

Finally, if WB has retained the rights to any of the unreleased material -- release of could be a final homage to Mo Ostin and the people who made WB "the" label. The AOL/WB entity has no sense of history or honor and should give us one final release of real music, so they can concentrate on the next Britney, N'Stank or other shit music.

Although, I eat up anything that Van Halen puts out, I've discovered that most of the previously unreleased stuff that bands put out was previously unreleased for a reason.
Could this be magic?

Can you imagine all the music that is hidden inside of 5150? I would love to hear some of it, good or bad. Since the band is doing NOTHING, why not release some of it.

Unfortunately, it's probably pretty damned complicated with licensing issues, etc....
AND with no record company (although several would probably JUMP at the chance), it makes it a little more difficult.

But, Jesus, a Roth-era concert vid or double CD, or a lost tracks thing at the very least from all eras.....

Unreleased tunes are usually unreleased for a reason. But I would LOVE a couple classic live shows releasaed from the vaults. Some crisp good soundin shows form the good ol days...assuming they have those.

This is one incredible idea that I'd LOVE to see happen!!

However, I can just hear Ed & Al's thoughts about this particular thread.

"You all have slagged on us for the past 4 years, called my cancer a farce, bitched and moaned about not hearing anything from us, trapped our bassist in a corner with his own words, made our webmaster look like a dillhole...wait, scratch that one. He did that himself.

You piss and moan and whine about anything and everything, from me being at a Styx party to my driving skills on the golf course to Al's anonymity the past 4 years to the remasters not including bonus trax and NOW??? YOU WANT ME TO RELEASE 'THE GEMS' FROM THE VAULT???

ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR FREAKIN' MINDS??"

That being said, I think Ed and Al will probably block anything new from being released...that and the fact that WB may still have their fingers in the pie.

I DO like the idea though...it's really sobering to think of all the cool things inside 5150 that will never see the light of day.
