I've done the entire album. DM me if you want a CD-R of it. I've done a few other albums where I thought the bass to lacking. Just did ...And Justice For All & it was a huge difference to actually have bass. It's quite easy to do through GarageBand. I was thinking of taking a crack at Eat 'Em & Smile

There were a few requests I received to do something similar with A Different Kind Of Truth. I was busy the past few days putting this together for y'all. I expanded the tracks to lower the amount of compression, then lowered the level of the bass in the mix (contrary to VHIII where the bass is inaudible, the bass here overpowers the rest of the mix). In addition, I toyed with various features to try and give the album more of a 'live' feel akin to earlier albums. Once again, it's a quick few edits I did on Audacity, and it's as much as I could do without the multitracks.

    Hope you enjoy!

P.S. In the coming weeks I'm going to be travelling and will need something to do on the plane rides. If you guys have any recommendations of albums or demo tapes you'd like me to try and bring the best out of, feel free to let me know.
For some reason the link for the VH3 remaster works fine but when I click on this one I get an error. Any clues as to why? Would love to hear what you did on this.

I had a copy of a remix of "Justice" and could not believe how much i hated it.

I'm just so used to that album sounding very claustrophobic & direct, very dry and boxey.
I'm not sure, but that particular production works with the vibe/songs on that album.

It just sounded weird all open with lots of Bass.

I like the scooped sound of Justice, but only on that album.

I totally hear you. I tended to avoid Justice, based on the lack of bass in the mix. It just sounded 'small' to me, if that makes sense. I could always send you a copy if you want.

Does it sound like this one?

And Justice is such a great album. I remember riding my bike to Bradlees to get it the day it came out in 88.

I wonder if i'm just so used to the original production, my ears won't accept a "better" version?

I crave that claustrophobic, scooped sound, when i hear those songs.

"Ride the Lightning" always sounded "frigid" to my ears, super cold & precise.
That album has my favorite Metallica rhythm guitar tone.
Actually, i like the sound of James' vocals, as well.

"Puppets" was slightly warmer, less ice cold, but also incredible.

But Justice was very scooped, machine like in execution & still really cool, somehow.

Just listen to that opener, man.

I hear it today & it's so incredibly apparent, Metallica were just better at it than everyone else.
    Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Exodus, etc.
Love 'em all, but James just had the right hand & execution, plus the gift of creativity & song skills.
They were so fucking heavy in those days, yet such excellent songwriters in their genre.
