Ehh, if I want Van Halen to pretend theyre Journey I'll listen to LWI or Not Enough. But Journey does Journey MUCH better.

I love both of those songs!
One is pop/rock genius, and the other is a gorgeous tune, regardless of 'labels' and such.

There's a poster here, I think his name is Jack Panama or something close, but we made a deal in exchange for a perfect rip of the Japanese Van Hagar remasters. Totally worth it if you can get your hands on them.

No it's not. I'm an audiophile so I actually dug into the coding and found them to be literally identical. The 2005 Forever Young 5150 and OU812s are both simply the same as the original Japanese releases, only louder. The increase in sound quality is from the fact that the American/European pressings of the original CD's were half assed, partially accounting for the lack of bass presence and quality. The Japanese versions were done correctly. The true sound difference is between the original US and Japanese pressings.

Different? Yes. Louder? Yes. Remaster? No.

However interestingly enough, both the F.U.C.K. and Balance remasters are truly remastered. F.U.C.K. is loudened and the drum tone was altered slightly to sound more clear, in addition to a bass boost. The Balance CD is actually less compressed compared to the original, and the instruments are more defined.

I'll toy around with both 5150 and OU812 on my flight and see what I can do. If I were you I would not go for the Japanese OU812 CD. Wait until I post and see if you like that.
There's a thin line between genius and insanity. I like to dance on it.

Come on, man. WCTBL is pop/rock genius? What's next? How Many Say I is Van Halen's Stairway To Heaven?

I love recording and playing around with Audacity, but I can't imagine "remastering" a whole album with it! That must be quite a process. Kudos, man.

I did my own version last summer using GarageBand. Cranked up the bass & it's a new album!

I think this is the version I posted of AFU last year. My speakers at work are so crappy, I can't tell if extra bass is there or not lol. Take a listen & see if it sounds better.

I can't tell if the sound is any better, but I dig that song.

In my car stereo or computer, it sounds much better! With the terrible speakers here, I can't even tell if there is bass, let alone elevated from the original

There were a few requests I received to do something similar with A Different Kind Of Truth. I was busy the past few days putting this together for y'all. I expanded the tracks to lower the amount of compression, then lowered the level of the bass in the mix (contrary to VHIII where the bass is inaudible, the bass here overpowers the rest of the mix). In addition, I toyed with various features to try and give the album more of a 'live' feel akin to earlier albums. Once again, it's a quick few edits I did on Audacity, and it's as much as I could do without the multitracks.

    Hope you enjoy!

P.S. In the coming weeks I'm going to be travelling and will need something to do on the plane rides. If you guys have any recommendations of albums or demo tapes you'd like me to try and bring the best out of, feel free to let me know.
Do you still have files for VH III ?
    Found them
    Thanks

I just listened to it through my home stereo Bose speakers and the extra bass is definitely there! My fav song from OU812!
