I appreciate that you started a thread about a topic that hasn't yet been discussed, yet I hate discussing the prospect of Van Halen retiring.

    Why?

For a multitude of reasons; it seemed like yesterday that I had gotten my favorite (1984) poster; time has gone by too quickly.

And then there's the lack of output from the band, which, given their musicianship, is a crime.

So no...I am damned well discontented with the prospect of 2015 being the band's last show.

How would I like for them to go out?

In what was a typical, Van Halen, "balls-to-the-wall" fashion, by putting out a final album whose excellence would shame whatever crap is out there today. End their run on a high note. Give me one last opportunity to blare my car stereo redneck style; a chance to beat on my chest in pride, as the world's greatest guitarist creates yet another symphony of excellence that obliterates every other poser out there today.

Along with a new album, maybe tour a handful of places, but again...exit the stage with something fresh, shock and awe....even if it's only 12 shows across the US.

    I don't think that's an unfair assertion.

I was at the "last" show too and I thought it was a really good show. I thought Eddie was great and Dave sounded as good as he could possibly sound these days. To me, it seemed like the best they could do in 2015. Being that it was 4 years ago already, I certainly don't think Dave's voice has gotten any better in that time, so I guess I hope that was it for them. And selfishly, since I was there, it would be cool to say I saw the last show. As I was watching the show, I was thinking, "that could be the last time they have play Panama." I watched the show as if it was the last show because with them, you just don't know. I got my ticket on Groupon for about $30 and had a great seat, so I'm at peace with it.

VS, excellent write up and amazing pictures.

As you know, my wife and I were at the Hollywood Bowl show two nights before their possible last concert ever. We really enjoyed it. Van Halen at the Hollywood Bowl on an Indian Summer October night under the stars. What's not to love?

Satisfied? Difficult to answer. I loved the Boston show I was at. Row 20, they sounded great, probably the best set list ever
A sober Eddie was so on point, if it was the last, then yes I am happy with the performance.
But that also just reminds me of the colossal waist of the last 20 years, the vault thatís never been tapped, the simple OG reunion that never was, even for one night.
It reminds me of all the things that could have been and the easy steps that never were
    But I got to hear
    IASR
    DDL
    LUTS
Dirty Movies live, and I never thought that would ever happen as those are all top 10 for me

But if it was it, Iíve got decades of memories, So many shows and experiences I got to share with people and at the end of the day, I saw the greatest live many times, I equate to seeing Jordan play, you can watch videos all you want, living it in real time, and seeing it live, no one can ever match him, thatís Eddie

I really, really hope there is another tour, or just dreaming here, another new album. It could always have been far worse. Their last show could have been in Tucson in 2004, & Ed could no longer be alive. I feel blessed to have had the activity (altho limited), that we've had since 2007. I also got to see them in 2007 & 2012, and feel fortunate to have had that opportunity. They will forever be my favourite band
