Default Sammy’s All Time Favorite Van Halen Song

    ...is guess what.

He’s doing DJ prerecorded takeover stints all this weekend on the Boneyard. I dunno if I’d ever heard him pick a fave before today, maybe he did and I forgot, or maybe he’s claimed a few different titles over the years. I don’t keep track of all his chats n’ stats like some others do.

In any case, you guessed it, the track the brought him fame and oh so much fortune...yes, it’s Cabo Wabo.

Which actually surprises me in one sense, and doesn’t in another. I still maintain that Cabo Wabo is arguably VH’s most unique track of all from either era. A little of Sammy’s “make it last”, a lotta Eddie 12 string stank, admittedly more than a wee bit of epic tone and nuance throughout despite it being a another VH beach drinkin’ diddy, and what may be the best backing melodies and harmonizing from the entire catalogue, rivaled only by IASR, HAIL, and ITO perhaps.

Lol, in the Boneyard snippet they played before spinning the track, Sammy said “if only the bass had been turned up.”

Somebody’s been reading the Links methinks.

If only someone in the studio listened to the album before it was sent to press.

    Excellent pic by Sam IMO.

It’s one of my Top 10 songs of all-time, for sure.

it captures the essence of what I like most about VH (not the only song that does of course).
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

Love Cabo Wabo. Definitely the most unique out of the Sam era. Sam was on top of it lyrically, and in a zone singing it. He doesn’t do his typical screaming reach vocal, he keeps it in the pocket and let’s the music do the work, probably one of the most under rated songs

For most unique Van Halen song, I gotta go with Big Bad Bill. There's no other song like it in their catalog--its not even close. Jan Van Halen on clarinet pushes it over the top.

It was always “Dreams”. He must have just changed it recently.

I've always liked Cabo Wabo. Didn't they record it with the amp in a closet or something?
