See now you and I know that if memory serves, they stripped down DITS on the Sheep tour and at the UsFest...if I recall right, Ed ditched the Mooby synth entirely and played a guitar driven rhythm and it was of course vastly superior to the record version. .

Dunno why they (all of em including Sam) just don’t do that every time.

Fuck the piped in keys. If I see a live show, I want it all live. I can listen to prerecorded shit at home.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought that Sammy was going to be revealing his favorite VH song with Dave singing.

The Atomic Punks have always played Cradle with just the guitar, including the Wurlitzer intro with the flanger. I dont know why Ed doesnt just do that.

Sequenced keyboards are fine. They've worked for decades for both the Who and VH, two of the greatest live acts ever. Ed on keys and Sam trying to "play" Ed's guitar parts was just lame. Just as lame was Ed playing the guitar solo to Jump on the keys on the 1984 tour. Putting the greatest rock guitarist behind a keyboard and letting the frontman, an average guitarist at best, play the lone guitar was an ill advised decision in 1986 to say the least. Thankfully, VH did not continue that practice.

I think it was a guy called Alan Fitzgerald (was he with pre-VH Sam?) and it would've been somewhere between '91 and '95. I remember an interview in The Inside and someone (Mike?) talked about someone crashing through the roof of 'Fitzy's' tent while he was playing keys and highly strung the fella was. Anyway, boring post, I know, but relevant to what's being discussed.

Ahh, I think that was his name. I believe Defalco was a tech for Ed sometime in that same period.

Alan Fitzgerald played with Sam on the second Montrose record (he played bass on it). I don't think he was ever in Sam's solo band but he was the keyboard player for Night Ranger and he did play keys offstage for VH from 91-95 (from what I remember)

He was in Sam's band around the time of Musical Chairs and All Night Long. In fact, Sam's band had all the members of Montrose except Ronnie Montrose!

You know there's literally nothing left to talk about, when you get references to the
Nigh Ranger keyboard guy & Beach lyrical quotes.

Technically Fitz was the only “5th” member of VH since he played an instrument live for them.
