My guess is that Sammy was saying "Dreams" because it has his greatest vocal performance, from a technical standpoint. Not only in VH, in his career as well. Very few singers can sing "Dreams."

I think that live, the song has rarely been presented in an appealing way, including in VH.

    Dreams live 1993-1995 was awesome.

I like Cabo much more than Dreams, especially Sam's more relaxed vocals on Cabo in stark contrast to his straining and screeching throughout Dreams.

To me, Dreams was better live. Sam would wisely let Mike do some of the heavy lifting vocally. But, mainly, what was better was Al pushing the tempo faster than the studio version, and tossing off some superior drumfills compared to the more subdued studio version. The faster tempo just suits that tune so well.

To me you gotta play the keyboards live. Which VH didn't do 1993-95.

I can’t say I agree with that at all.

The song didn’t work well live on the 5150 tour. It’s much meatier when Ed would play guitar live on it 93-95.

By 2004 he couldn’t even play the opening melody correctly on guitar.

Having Ed stuck behind a keyboard and not be able to play the rhythms and fills on the guitar was terrible on both the 1984 and 5150 tours. There's nothing wrong with Ed recording the keys live at rehearsal then using a sequencer in concert, as they did, and as the Who did for many years.

And, actually, didn't VH have an offstage keyboardist on one of those tours? Maybe it was 98? Think his name is Craig Defalco.

You’re not wrong. Was much better when all instruments are played live. Didn’t mike play the Wurlitzer on the Invasion tour for Cradle?

I was perfectly fine with Eddie playing keys for a few tracks on the 84 and 5150 tours.

Fuck sequencers and piped in assist of any kind, instrumental or vocal.

Bands that wanna play songs requiring extra members and instrumentation, either have someone come onstage to help, strip down the song to basics, or skip that song entirely.

Mike did indeed play the Wurlitzer on the Invasion tour for Cradle.

Hey, maybe Mike actually had to teach Ed the keyboard parts for 1984, Jump and I'll Wait.

In any case, you guessed it, the track the brought him fame and oh so much fortune...yes, it’s Cabo Wabo.

Which actually surprises me in one sense, and doesn’t in another. I still maintain that Cabo Wabo is arguably VH’s most unique track of all from either era. A little of Sammy’s “make it last”, a lotta Eddie 12 string stank, admittedly more than a wee bit of epic tone and nuance throughout despite it being a another VH beach drinkin’ diddy, and what may be the best backing melodies and harmonizing from the entire catalogue, rivaled only by IASR, HAIL, and ITO perhaps.

Lol, in the Boneyard snippet they played before spinning the track, Sammy said “if only the bass had been turned up.”

Somebody’s been reading the Links methinks.
No shit? I thought it was Dreams.

Cabo Wabo is such a righteous tune. I used to have a screensaver that would show pics of Cabo as the song played. Had it set to start at about 15 minutes of inactivity. Nearly shit myself a coupla times when it started, and I had the volume up.

I liked it when Eddie played keys and Sammy played guitar for the 5150 key tracks. Better that than a fucking sample.

It’s concurrently a sorely underrated track as much as an epic one.

The only song on 5150 that I didn't like better live was Love Walks In. It just didn't sound right. Then again, I'm probably one of a handful of people on here that actually likes that tune.

Never liked it. Not a fan of VH ballads.

Not a fan of any ballads other than the two best ones.
