When I mentioned my critique of this new Circle song, that's my problem. I want to hear a build up to something. Its called a chorus. That's what this song is really lacking IMO. Just doesn't have anything I can remember. Top of the World, Dream another Dream, Poundcake, When Its Love or 5150 all have that. So Sam can do it. He has 4 albums with VH that showed he can make a hook. Heck even Up for Breakfast has a great chorus.

I just don't hear that from Sam anymore. Or as much as I want to hear it. The Sam I grew to love was the one in VH and was making hooks galore. The only hooks I hear now are barbless
I couldn't have said it better. TFB's has none really and "Can't Hang"'s is sub-par for Sam. Choruses or at least bridges are key, although there are some exceptions like "Future in the Past" and "Turnin' Left." I think "Affirmation" fits into that category. Wish it had a solo and was longer though!

I agree with cookie cutter-type songs, but I don't think A&A are two of them. FITH, yes. "Sucker in a 3 Piece" is the epitome! I think a lot of Chickenfoot III is as well.

BlindtotheWorld, here is my take on Balance. I love the songs on this album. I thought everybody brought it on this record. I think Ed's playing was inspired and deep and Sam dug deep on a lot of these tunes and gave a great lyrical and vocal performance. The ones in bold would have been my album had I been asked.

The Seventh Seal - love it
Can't Stop Lovin' You - love it, but not on this album
Don't Tell Me - love it
    Amsterdam - love it
Big Fat Money - love it
    Strung Out - dump it
    Not Enough - love it
    Aftershock - love it
    Doin' Time - dump it
Baluchitherium - love the music but it should have carried over to the next album with added lyrics.
Take Me Back - love it
Feelin' - love it, but I kind of get the demo vibe on Sammy's vocals.
    Crossing Over - love it

Imagine VH's next album with the following tunes.

    Humans Being
    What became MWM.
    What became CGTSNM.
    Baluchitherium w/lyrics
    Feelin' with tuned up lyrics
    Between Us Two
    CSLY
And a couple of other new tunes

I never thought the "straining" in MWM was that bad. He is, but it never goes horribly wrong. Doesn't ruin the song for me.
Compared to what he's doing now it sounds fucking awesome.

I'm guessing (hoping) that when listening to the entire album as one musical piece with many parts, it will all come together. That's how a concept album is supposed to work anyway.

    Alright, I'll eat my words.

    Debuted at #4.
    41,000 copies sold.

Now that makes me wonder something.
If everybody who bought a ticket to the current tour got an album, either nobody outside of these shows bought it, or they're averaging a really shitty attendance considering the tour is somewhere around 40 dates.

You get an email that allows you to order the CD or download the album for free. That requires the person to take that extra step.
