Getting old sucks. Walking around with a fucking cane as I tore my L3 disc playing hoops. Dave's an optimist, he knows Al will need the money sooner or later.

I had a fusion on my neck 3 years ago. I actually got a bit shorter. On our doorway where we measure the kids every so often, I got measured about 10 or so years ago. I was in my 40's at was still 6'3 3/4" at that point.
Now I'm nearly an inch shorter at 53. I know you shrink a bit as you age, but after that operation it was an immediate difference. I'm barely 6'3" now, if I'm even that tall.

They do use kind of a "shim" made from cadaver bone to replace the disc they take out.

And condolences to Dave. I've lost 2 dogs in the last 3 years to cancer, WAY before their time. Also just lost a cat about a month ago, also to cancer.
    Piss on cancer.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

    Damn sure does.
I live right outside Raleigh, NC in Wake Forest. We went to Charlotte (2.5 hrs away) to the NHRA race this past Saturday. Walked all over creation and sat in the sun all day and came back that night.

Then to Goldsboro yesterday, to the airshow at Seymour Johnson AFB. Again, walked all over creation, and stood up all day.

My ass is damn near crippled today, lol.

Sorry if this shifts the thread too far, but I recall fudd mentioning that the next tour could be the last with Dave for health reasons but he assured us it was not life-threatening, etc... was it the need for a spinal fusion?

Anyway, glad Dave sounds like Dave. When my dog died I couldn't really be myself for days.

Ha! Yeah, Dave really talked about Dave more than his dog. 4 1/2 minutes of Dave, 30 seconds of Russell in that clip!

Honestly putting down the dog I got when I was 22 years old and had to put down at 35 was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. Sadly a few days after we put her down my wife had a miscarriage. Ironically the same day of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

Worst week ever. The trauma brought my anxiety back out which led to some pretty self destructive behavior.
    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

Such a shame. Judging from the photos, it looks like Russ was the grounding in Dave's life.

Like many of you have already mentioned, putting down a dog is one of the hardest things in life. My own experience came the week Tom Petty passed. My little guy was my sidekick. Not a doubt in the world. My wife and I had seen Tom Petty in concert a little than a month before. That double whammy was especially hard. All I could do was listen to Tom Petty.

Or you're that kid who's parents just kept replacing their old black dog with a new black dog and you never noticed. I think we all know "that" kid.

TV show King of Queens did an episode on that once. Doug is well into his 30s and his childhood dog is still 'alive' ... underrated show
