No offense meant to John Shanks, but I think could have produced a better sound for VH on my laptop than he did with a professional mixing board.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Ziggy brings up an interesting point. You need a special guy to handle icons like Dave & Eddie, someone who they both respect that they would let into their creative circle. It would have to be someone that can relate to Dave's broad musical ideas and eccentricities , and Eddie's stubborn virtuosic pursuit of perfection. It would help if this person also possessed some style and panache. Let's all think out of the box here.

Here's my pick. I think he fits the bill perfectly.

I think having Steve there would fire up Dave and Ed's creative and competitive juices.

    Hell no.

His tone sucks ass. He's good for what he does as a solo guitar wanker artist, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near the dials.

He's not playing on the album, man. I'm talking about someone who they would listen to when he says that something sucks or sounds dated. In the end, Ed has the last word on his tone.

I don't think Steve Vai is the one I would want to talk to. His songwriting and arranging is way out in left field.

Vai is eclectic, he's a fan, he's worked with Dave, and he and Ed can relate to each other since they're both incredible musos.

There's a key phrase in that quote... "in a perfect world..."

In a perfect world™... Ed, Al & Dave would be willing to collaborate and compose new material with all the key ingredients that made them notable in the first place. They'd love their craft and talents to take the music world by storm... maybe even utilize the most qualified Bass Player™ on the planet... The possibilities are endless...

In the real world™... their egos and 40 years of joint dysfunctional psychosis can't bring them to even interact within the same zip code, let alone creatively collaborate. Ed's married to his couch and tinkering in his garage. Dave's turning himself into an art canvas, physically and part time philosopher. Al's a hermit. They are enjoying the anti-social solitude of being the center of attention in groups no larger than can fit into a mini-van... music... yeah, they used to do that... Fuck it...
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...

I would like to hear what Bob Rock could do with VH.

I know there are certain people on here that hate him because of what happened to Metallica, but they decided to go more mainstream, not him. His albums sound BIG, and I like that.

What about a new Van Halen album produced by Ted Templeman with Michael Anthony on bass, the VH brothers on guitar and drums and Dave on vocals? That combo seemed to work pretty well back in the day.

When was the last time Ted was in a studio? He's gotta be pushing 80.
