He definitely gets VH, that's for sure. He's a true fan.
I just think if Ed really wanted to go old school he could without anyone's help. No one knows the formula better than him.
But, if wanted some help than Michael would fit the bill.

I like to piss off/freak people out by tellling them that one of the best heavy metal songs ever is by Stryper.(It's true)

Way back around 1990, my wife and I were having dinner at the Mexican restaurant at the old La Mirada Mall. I think it was called La Fiesta. Michael Sweet was sitting at the table right next to us. I remember overhearing him saying something complimentary about Kip Winger. Stuart from Beavis and Butthead would have been pleased.

Ha! I remember that one. Haven't heard it since high school, I would imagine. And once every 30 years is probably enough!

I don't get it. The guy says if he could help facilitate it, he could bring the best out of them and help them make a great record. He's not going to fucking sing or play on it - just be a Rick Rubin, and bring them back to the style and sound that made them great originally.

I know were all totally jaded, but something like this would be miles better than what we have right now, which is NOTHING.

Just because he was in a band that most don't like doesn't mean he couldn't make it happen if given the chance.

I wonder how many drunken/high texts and phone calls Ed gets from geezer vocalists saying the same thing?

Sammy Hagar says that he would love to help VAN HALEN make another classic album in the vein of the band's earliest efforts.

"Chances are in this lifetime it'll never happen, but if it ever did, and we co-produced [the LP] together, and I was able, as a fan, a singer, a guitar player, a writer, to pull that out of them, I guarantee you it would be the best VAN HALEN album since ['Van Halen'], 'II' and ['Women And Children First']," the Circle frontman told "10 Questions With The Musical Mind" in a new interview.

"I can say that without even any hesitation at all, because, in a perfect world again, if they agreed to it, and we all worked together and went for that, I guarantee you it would happen and the world would be going, 'What the eff just happened?'"

According to Hagar, the ideal VAN HALEN album should remain true to the band's classic sound without attempting to incorporate any of the newer sonical influences which could dilute the group's original songwriting magic.

"We don't wanna hear VAN HALEN doing a modern song with no guitar solos," Sammy said. "You wanna hear VAN HALEN like you heard it on 'Van Halen' and 'II' and 'Women And Children First'. That's the VAN HALEN we all know and love, and that was the fire ó a burning, ignited, raging fire."

I am sure a lot of people think they could get the best from the band but what happens when Eddie Van Halen says "I really think this sustainer needs to be more prominent in this track" or "I got a fever for more neck pickup." How does a Michael Sweet tell one of the greatest guitarists every "Eddie it sounds like shit and you should go back and listen to what made you good" Then you have Dave who wants to sing in the audio realm of bats and certain paranormal creatures Oh and Dave being Dave having ADD mixed with abstract thoughts.

What experience does Michael Sweet have with that? To top it off, I really don't like his music so I don't want that guy trying to influence the songwriting for my favorite band.

If I was going with a former hair metal guitarist, who loves CVH, who can write catchy choruses, etc and is an accomplished producer, I would get Butch Walker. However he would still face the same issues. Eddie being Eddie and Dave being Dave.
