It helps that both of those bands had films come out about them in the last year.

VH's stature would be raised if a film like Bohemian Rhapsody was released in theaters.

It's true, these Gen. Z kids LOVE Queen, i've witnessed it first hand.

Not sure if it's the progressive/LGBT thing, where Freddie was an early icon
of the movement or a forefather.
Or maybe the tunes, because these kids love harmonies & the whole Abba thing,
where production and layered vocals kinda point to the whole "Hamilton" movement,
    later on.

These kids don't know VH or even Pearl Jam, it's bizarre.

A lot of them know Metallica, and some say: My Dad played them for me as a kid,
    and Metallica rules!

    Early nostalgia?

This is the first generation that has rejected U2.

U2 were a band that seemed to keep attracting new fanbases, but they tanked with
    these Z kids.

I don't like GD, though I recognize they've written some really good ear candy. Still, I won't give him grief about it. Like I said, at least he's not listening to Rap.

My 2 year old and 5 year old love Queen.

    Like LOVE them.

Simply from me playing their vinyl.

Queen have become top tier alongside The Stones etc.

For what its worth, I know and have talked to plenty of people around my age who have a reasonable awareness of Van Halen/other classic rock. It's definitely not a majority of people on a campus of 20,000+ students, but its at least a little significant for a very unscientific observation.
    I'm just here.

Not quite top tier. Only 3 bands have that level.

But Queen is certainly among the top cream of the second tier.

Whether we're aware of it or not, old bands are being discovered by kids every day. If you like rock music you're gonna go back and explore.
Just like we did when we were kids.
The way they do it is different but it happens just the same.

Just look at the merchandise. Kids buy a bunch of the "old band" merch. Shirts, posters, patches....
Zeppelin, Stones, Guns, Nirvana, Floyd, Hendrix....they sell a ton. Any good band of yesterday has young fans that want merch now.
So, they must like the music as well.
