I'm not around youngsters much anymore so I don't know. When I was in my 40s (circa early 2000s) I took a pic of Roth and EVH to work and would show it to the 20 year old crowd and I'd say back then maybe 2-3 out of 10 knew who they were. My guess now would be less.
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

I teach guitar lessons and help mentor younger musicians at my church.

As Sam vs. Dave said - kids who are instrumentalists are decently likely to know of or have heard VH. They all like to explore the golden age of rock n roll via YouTube and Instagram. As such, VH’s lack of social media presence is hurting its overall legacy. The kids are much more likely to find info on Zeppelin or Motley Crue or AC/DC because there’s a decently regular stream of content.

Kids who aren’t musicians though? Extremely unlikely for them to know of VH.

This discussion reminds me of the South Park where Randy is seeing the kids playing Guitar Hero and makes the mistake of thinking that are actually interested in playing rock music.

VH could be on the level of AC/DC, Rush or KISS.

They have done nothing to retain or grow their fanbase though.

The cafe food is pretty good, actually. For a chain place.
I never stayed at their hotels, but I got kicked out of the London Hard Rock....the bathrooms are downstairs and just outside of the men’s room...was a framed poster of Led zeppelin’s 1980 tour of Europe....I was asked to leave after both of my hand and foot were on the wall tryin got pry it off the wall...alcohol was involved.

Haha. Yeah, stealing the memorabilia is frowned upon. I had a college buddy who drunkenly tried to lift one of Stevie Ray's plateau hats from the San Francisco cafe. He was summarily bounced.

My oldest at 18 is a classic rock fan.

My 17 year old is old school country. He likes Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, etc.

It happens. Each generation has their own flavors, and rarely do they transfer to the next.

I used to say the only outfits in the hard rock world that ever truly transcended generations were Zep and the Beatles, maybe AC/DC or GnR. But I think even those greats' scope of modern play is now diminishing.

The hard truth is, the current zeitgeist doesn't really include much rock. Hip hop, EDM, alternative reign.

My oldest two love Rush, therefore, I know I have done my musical hand off job properly.

True. Rolling Stone has a current article lamenting the end of the guitar solo. Eddie gets a mention.
