CF was not created to rival VH. They formed out of jam sessions at Cabo Wabo.

Also Chickenfoot’s debut went Gold, same as ADKOT.

And yeah it was Joe who recently stated that Sammy was the holdout on CF.

Sammy just wants to do Sammy. With whats left of his career thats just fine with me.

Id say Cabo Wabo is just as much his legacy.

I know many redheads that disagree with you lol.

VH is the biggest part of his legacy, but that doesn't mean it's the main legacy. His legacy is the sum of parts. Just like VH is a sum of parts.

Ehh I dunno about that. Not Montrose except for legitimate hard rock fans, sure as shit not his Capital era (and yes, I'm including "Hey Boys" and "The Iceman"), not HSAS, not the Wabo's nor even Chickenfoot.

So that leaves 55 and his Geffen era and his tequila empire. So that trumps his 10+ years in Halen?

I'm a VH fan first but when it comes to Sam's solo shows, I'm just as excited to hear Red or Space Station or Little White Lie as I am to hear a VH tune.

That's 'cause you're a Sam Halen fan, not a Sammy fan.

    Exactly.

A full CF set with Joe and Chad > 4 VH songs with Jason and Vic.

    It's that simple for me.

I started out more of a Van Hagar fan way back but now I enjoy a lot of his other work just as much as his VH stuff.

Sammy has stated the pinnacle was VH but yeah that’s not all he's known for.

    Van Halen doesn’t define Sammy.

Didn't say that's what defines him, but what he's best known for, and what will be his "main" legacy.

Can we get some non-Redheads over here? A little help? Wait a minute, we're in the Red Rocker forum...

I'm no redhead lol. I can just see the forest over the trees.

I would wager his place in history will be defined by himself, not Van Halen.

Some of you really put seriously unwarranted weight on VH's legacy these days. Because of his solo efforts and other projects, he's going to come out cleaner on that aspect of musical legacy, the rest of the band won't.

    Not anymore.

It did for a long while.

He's managed to escape that shadow, miraculously. The cantinas, the tequila, the numerous projects with various artists, the fan friendly attitude....all helped to elevate him beyond 'replacement singer for Van Halen.'

Probably helps that he's active, has a number of pop culture irons in the fire at all times, is well respected around the industry, and is not a douchebag like what's left of Van Halen.
