This x100. In retrospect, that's what sunk Chickenfoot. I think had III sold as well as the debut, that band would still exist today or at least until a third album came out and didn't sell well.

    I don't think that’s true.

Sammy wants to play his catalog and Satriani doesn’t. Add in that RHCP go on tour 2-3 years at a stretch and Chickenfoot was too hard to get together.

One of these promos the Circle have been doing Sammy said he doesn’t expect it to sell big. He says he just wants people to listen to it. He knows the Industry.
    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

Nope, itís become clear Joe didnít want to play any VH and Sammy did.

You seem to know what you are talking about but what's the source for that? Interview or something?

The basis for record sales being the reason was based on subsequent interviews with Sam when asked about a third CF record. He was moaning that it costs a ton and the effort is significant, and no one buys it anyway.

    This is the correct answer.

    Stated by Hagar.

Hagar wants to play his whole career and Satch just wanted Chickenfoot.

I love CF but I’d rather see a live show of the Hagar catalog.

I think a lot of this is just conjecture to be honest. Sammy saying that he loves the Circle because they can play everything and anything, 3-4 years after CF’s last album doesn’t necessarily equate to the reason for the demise of that band.

Further, CF requires a ton more effort than any Sam led band, including the Circle. I think CF puts tremendous pressure on Sam from both a song writing and performance standpoint.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you but I thinks it's more complex than the way you are describing it. Sam built CF specifically to complete with VH and their albums sales weren't great and they were playing the same venues that Sam solo plays.

    A-men.

Love the new album but CF beats it of course. However, if Chickenfoot=no Van Hagar live, which is obviously the case, then fuck 'em. A reunion here and there, and let The Circle do the rest.

Sammy just stated insomuch in a recent interview. It lined up with the fact Joe, Chad, and Mike had schedule ops and Sam didnít organize it.

I donít think CF was created to rival VH. It was just a band idea that manifested twice.

I dunno why people want CF to play VH. CF was its own deal. And it was good that way.

Chickenfoot not playing more live material from it's band members' past - Van Halen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sam solo, Joe solo - was a huge wasted opportunity. I'm surprised to hear that was a Joe thing. Sam was always the one who had a bug up his butt about playing Roth songs when Sam was in VH. After all, Sam was always playing old songs from his catalog, but just his catalog, not anyone else's, in either VH or Chickenfoot. Maybe it was Joe's revenge for the lousy band name Sammy picked!

I liked that CF concerts didn't have any VH in them. Didn't want to hear Joe replicate Eddie, and that's no doubt why he won't do it. Too much comparison from the VH fanbase. It's a good thing, not unlike VH and 5150, that they stuck to their own music. It prevents rankings and overlap, but more important, focuses on the new music.

Yeah but they could've played one rotating song each set. And one Chili Peps song and jammed to one Satch tune. Like during the encore. Even in medley fashion.

Anyways the reason for me is hearing Van Hagar songs live, which trumps anything and everything. If Chickenfoot was Sammy's full-time gig for the rest of his career, and they only did Foot songs, Montrose songs, and other covers...that's no good for me. No good for Sam.

His legacy will always be VH, and quite frankly I don't blame him for trading one C for the other so that he can finish his career keeping his legacy alive. He IS kinda old! And only Chickenfoot songs would not accomplish that.

I donít agree that the alpha omega of Sam is VH. Honestly, most of you only care about his VH stuff and little else. Itís fine, but some folks look at the entirety of his career, not just his collaborations with Eddie. And a lot of his best work lies outside of Van Halen.

I know every song from his '67 Samson & Hagar single through Montrose, his Capital and Geffen years, HSAS, and Waboritas up until "Hey Hey (Without Greed)." Van Halen is his main legacy.
