We will always hear "Roth was never a great singer", but a million concert goers thought he was an AMAZING singer and frontman. How good was he? Well, a LOT of people thought he was easily THE BEST in the business.
I never thought DLR was a bad singer until 1986 when I read some of those EVH interviews - I don't remember any reviews or any discussions within the fanbase on the topic before 1986. Eddie's the one who opened that can of worms.

The 1978 is "Restored" the 1979 is prior to the HD Scans and was captured or "Telecined" with a Projector and a Canon GL-2 miniDV and can't be restored and is only 600 lines or less..kind of a before & after thing...the Restored 79 is sitting in the vault...now you know what we have been doing for 5 years....

When people wonder why they were considered THE live hard rock act to see at one point, this video shows why. Unfortunately, most on this board didn't get to see that version with their own eyes, they got to see the bloated arena rock act they would become in 1984. Still great, but not like this.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

The band filmed at this time had the Eye of the Tiger. They were pounding on frozen meat....wait that didn't sound right.

Very cool and its shit like this that made me wish I was born about 8 years earlier so I could have gone to a show like this. In 79 I was 10 years old and probably thought the Bee Gees were happening

This is probably the most enjoyable VH thing I've watched and heard in a while. It's almost like seeing and hearing them for the first time all over again.

Speaking of time machines...I'd do 1984. That's the VH I knew as a kid the most and they were the biggest band in the world.

'79's obviously awesome but they didn't come into their own as far as their showmanship until '80. Dave lost the Jim Dandy moves that year for the most part and Eddie started jumping. '80 then '81 would round out my Top 3.

No reason I can see for them to re-record anything from either night except the 2nd night Ed's Guitar Quit so "Poundcake" is a 3 piece version for the 1st V/C plus they Muzzled Sammy the 2nd night so no mention of "Fresno" or Guitar Duel when Sam Claimed after Eddie wipes the floor with him.."thats ok I gotta bigger dick than he does"..thats the funniest moment..(I don't think Eddie was happy with that statement since they dropped the solos before 1WTR)

But now, for the first time, ALL of the guy's '79 Fresno footage has been released, right from his master reels! Aside from picture quality the big difference on this latest upgrade that hit YouTube in January vs the original from 20 yrs ago, the 2012 and 2014 upgrades is now thereís a clip of Runniní With Devil in there . Those other versions didnít have it .
