You know you guys here made me watch the LWAN video again after more than a decade since the last time I did. 5150 the song is really cool and the version live is even more on my book just because of the solo part that is different from the record itself. The 1st part of it, done with the volume knob, is superb! But yet I stand with Good Enough as my favourite tune from the record.

I am surprised 5150 is that lopsided of a victory. I voted for it and my fave off the record but I'm not the typical Hagar era fan. Seems like constant in all the album polls regardless of era is the first single is almost always not the fave of fans. Are we just burnt out on the single or have they consistently picked the wrong song as a lead single?

It's hard to argue against 5150 as a musical and lyrical masterpiece in the Van Halen catalog. That being said, I can't see 5150 as a single, let alone the lead single from the album 5150. I think they picked the right song to represent where Ed and Van Halen were going circa 1984-1986. Why Can't This Be Love generated a lot of buzz around the new Van Halen when it dropped and still has consistent radio play for the Hagar era. 5150 the song would have required a condensed version for radio, and I don't think any Van Halen fan wants a condensed version of that or any song. Whether people like Why Can't This Be Love or not, it's opening alone hooks the listener perhaps more than any other song on the record, at least for a radio single. Just my two cents. That's probably all it's worth.

5150, easily. I also dig The Inside but hate that Ed wasted that awesome riff and solo on a throwaway song

My pick is Summer Nights. What a Great party tune! I still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio. The LWAN version is fantastic too, the the variation on the guitar solo Ed plays on this one is legendary.

But one of those songs from the album that I still think roughly holds up for the most part is Summer nights. Better live, but I still love it. It was a point in my dumb point in my life that still takes me back. Out.
I feel this way about most of my favorite bands. For most songs (at least ones that ever got played live) from most of my favorite bands there's at least one live version I always prefer to the studio version. Which is one of the main reasons I always bitch about there being so relatively little high quality VH live stuff.

Anyway, I picked 5150 in the poll like most others. Summer Nights probably close second. But both far superior on LWAN.

Can't understand all the love for "Love Walks In"...that song makes me want to stick an ice pick in my ears.

haha. I think it's a cool tune. Keyboard heavy, but I like the melody.

Love it. One of the most beautiful solos I’ve ever heard.

    Vocal is incredibly strong.

I think both solos are stellar. LWI is the favorite VH song of your BFF, Fudd. No joke.

    I just listened to LWI.

    Both solos are amazing. Soulful.

    Some of Ed’s best.

I don’t find LWI sappy in the least to be honest (if that's the criticism here). In the live version, the rhythm guitar and bass line aggressively drive the song forward. Listen at 0:50.
