WACF easily. My second fav VH album behind FW. Love this album! It may not sound "heavy" today as it did in 80, but it was heavy metal VH. Every party I went to in 80, WACF was being played. Radio loved And The Cradle Will Rock and EWS and VH got a tremendous amount of airplay from this album.

DD had 3 cover songs. I don't count Happy Trails and BBWISWN as "covers". Too short and too fun not too like them anyways. Still, 3 is too many, this far into a bands career...except I love them so much! Also, I didn't latch onto to VH until 1984 so it's not like I was waiting a year or two for their next album after FW, I can see if you were already a fan and got DITS and PW. I'll bet my next paycheck no more than 10% of VH fans knew WHATGTG was a cover when they first heard it(if that)! DD goes down like a crisp, ice cold beer on a hot summer day.

WACF, is almost as dark as FW for me for some reason, cant put my finger on it but it just has a "vibe" to it regardless of some of songs like IASR and CTBM. The first 2 albums were like "Hey!, lets party and have some fun!" WACF and FW were more like "Hey!, lets get fucked up and do some damage!"

This album was not sequenced very well IMO, but I cant really figure out a better layout. This and VH II were albums I always jumped around tracks instead of listening straight through. TYWH is probably the most pedestrian song on the classic 6 pack. No super stand out solo's from Ed on here either. Of course great and amazing playing all around, but more of the riff/song is king on this one. Again, love it all, just pointing out a few things out.
I'm sure W&CF will win this poll. And that's a pretty cool record, hands down. Some pretty cool stuff: EVH using the VHII Guitar to record 01 track (Tora! Tora! and that's it!), the keyboards then the MXR Flanger and the Marshall, that jungle feeling with EWS, their Club Days represented with Fools and Romeo (parts from GTSOTR), stuff like Simple Rhyme and Whsikey as the best songs to me. Growth would have done a nice, different move if they worked it out. Not a fan of LOC, though it not thaaaat bad. And it has the best back cover picture in the entire R'n'R history, IMHO.

DD, on the other hand, has that funny vibe, yet it's all a rush, a fast pace feeling (probably because EVH would prefer taking a break instead of record another album and tour, which made it Dave's album). But it rocks way too much more to me than W&CF - it shows how great these guys where back then and how diverse were the music they could put out. Hang'em High - how can someone not fall in love instantly with its rhythm? The solo for Secrets is so well done and soft and natural. (Before I forget, I love the drum sound all the way). Little Guitars is an amazing tune, just like Full Bug is (actually that's my favourite one from DD). The cover tunes - well, they all became sort of vanhalenized stuff - again it shows not only the potential of VH back then, but also their musical differences, the way the band was about to turn after its release and the advent of 5150 (the studio), 1984 (the album) and all the drama after that.

NOT a problem, my friend! Both are part of the best music ever released in the 3rd rock from the Sun.

Do you like Diver Down more than Fair Warning and Balance?

I like it more than Balance. I think Balance is also too dark a record for the band. Thought it was the best sounding VH record they did with Sam but the worst songs. Take me Back and Feelin are my faves off of it.

I love Fair Warning. Not sure if it's #1 on my list but it's in the conversation.

If Diver Down was all originals of the quality of what they had on it I think it would be in the conversation as best VH album but all the covers knocks it down.

    No.

It’s nowhere as good either. Fair Warning has the better songs and is almost but not quite a concept record. From the art work to the tone of the album to the lyrical content. This was the first time Ed overdubbed and imo the best VH has overdubs. It’s also easily the best performance of Eddie as a guitarist.

W&CF is not as dark but its the band’s heaviest album.

I just don’t grasp songs like Fools and Loss Of Control as anything other than filler.

Sorry. Most will disagree with me I know.

VH and VH2 were perfect companions. W&CF showed growth but is an uneven album. Fair Warning is just perfect.

I do. Fair warning gets the "dark" label but i don't think it's fair. I think women and children is darker. So this is love could fit on DD, unchained isn't dark, one foot isn't dark, hail isn't dark - hell that's a pop song. Mean street isnt dark.

Oh god no. Listen to HAIL "I don't wanna, baby i don't wanna". That's vh meets a barbershop quartet. It's great but it ain't dark.

Listen to the lyrics to HAIL. There is some serious disillusionment there.

Also, the lyrics to Mean Street were inspired by a trip DLR took to Haiti, and it wasn't a happy one.

One Foot Out The Door is about sleeping with another guy's wife. That is sort of bad.
